Dear compatriots!

Friends!

Hours are counting last minutes of leaving 2002 and all of us, sitting around a holiday table together with family, friends and relatives, with the kindest hopes we are waiting for coming New Year.

I am sincerely pleasured these exciting minutes to transfer all of you, my dear, the most high respect and from all my heart, intimately to congratulate all of you with coming New Year.

It is quite natural, that, saying goodbye with finishing its run, Year - becoming history, we involuntarily freshen in the memory unlike against each other days, take a view to swift-flowing, as if the river, time, we reflect on eternity and at the same time about rapidity of life, we make plans on the future.

So, it is already accepted, also meets our best traditions, in these hours and minutes, seeing off the past to think about good, first of all about those pleasures and hopes, which the life has presented us. And all, that we have made, our multinational people that to save up the most important for all of us - peace, calmness in our general house reject, remove from ours threshold a trouble, huge evil - international terrorism, extremism and fanaticism, which last years threatened our peace and quiet life.

In our society for this time, the consent has even more become stronger, the greater place began to borrow such, so necessary quality for each person and family, as kindness, inter-respect and mercy.

New stimulus for the further improvement of moral atmosphere, spiritual updating became the announcement of 2002 year in our country - Year of Protection of Elder Generation Interests.

Everything, that we have made and we do today for elder people, our already aged fathers and mothers, all that is done, that within the limits of available opportunities and means to facilitate their life, surround with care and attention, no doubt, it will remain henceforth in the centre of attention, our integral part activity.

It is self-evident, that increase of well-being and living standard of people in many respects depends on how we work fruitful and effective, we organise life, from productivity of spent political, economic and democratic reforms, from as far as these tasks become daily care of all of us and everyone on the places.

Today, we have all bases to be absolutely confident that we can, have all opportunities and resources, and first of all, firm desire of our people to work and live as people in the advanced prospering countries of the world.

The most true road to achievement of this, uneasy purpose to which many countries came as a result of long years of persistent work, is realisation of a strategic course of democratic and market reforms and the way of liberalisation of our life, chosen by us, protection of interests, rights and freedom of each separate person.

It is a way, which already gives and will yield further fruits for the blessing of our country, our people, growth and strengthening of its authority on international scene.

Dear friends!

For several years, each New Year has its definition in our country. Behind each, there are noble thoughts, interests of millions our fellow citizens, their peace life, spiritual and material development, tendency in the future.

According to this kind tradition, we have named coming year as Year of Mahalla (Neighbourhood). This unique public institute of self-management of the citizens, having a thousand-year history, has incorporated wisdom and life experience of our hardworking people. It is necessary to be proud and do everything, so mahalla remained for each of us the native centre, where reigns peace and valid relation to each other, where all questions are solved together and in interests of everyone.

Dear my compatriots!

Addressing to you this New Year's evening, I want to state the conviction that everything, that is made for the expired period for formation and constructions of the modern democratic state and civil society, speaking simply - everything, that is made and done for improvement of life and well-being of people on the blessed ground of Uzbekistan, gives all bases to us with confident to look ahead.

May I once again congratulate you with all my heart and soul on the incoming New Year and convey to you all my most sincere and cordial wishes.

May the skies always be peaceful over our Homeland!

May New Year bring happiness, pleasure and well being in each house and family!

May good fortune accompany you in all your good undertakings and dealings!
