i think, sometimes, men do not kill themselves in order to impress women but because they know that they cannot stand/handle their emotions/situation (for example (actually it was yours) Pushkin. who really knows for what reason he killed himself? and it does not seem that he "killed" himself to impress his "sluty" wife. i dont' know how one could say it in better words, but anyways, i hope you get what i mean.

btw also dont' forget that there are more women dying for men. one of my friends at the UzMU killed herself -- throwing herself from the window from the third floor, because the MAN denied that even he knew her. what a parasite.

Pushkin was a pussy. While his wife was brazenly whoring around on him, he dueled with the guy who basically called her what she was - a whore.

As for the original question, I don't think men really want to die impressing women, but rather come out alive for a near-death scenario, somehow they overestimate themselves and actually die. I think Pushkin expected to kill Dantes and win back the affections of his slutty wife, much like in animal kingdom.

But women, yes, we are much more complicated creatures. And sometimes, we really choose death over the prospect of being unloved. And what we hope to achieve is the lifetime of grief for the one who scorned us.
