You can contact neighboring countries where uzbek embassies reside. Usually, they'll require you to send you passport. Otherwise, you'll get in trouble.

Stay out of trouble.

Guest: c6d0f45d, guest I asked about the actions I have to undertake in order to renew a passport not about the status of a guy in such a situation. Thanks for your response anyway

CrazyDT, thanks for your post.

Have you guys heard that in such countries where there is no Uzbek Embassy, the Consular office of Russia provides consular services? I heard there is some kind of agreement between Uzbekistan and Russia regarding this.

Buhorogi, bad news, even if u have embassy around, they are not going to change ur passport. U have to go home and exchange it there.

Guest: a374c861, But you still could extend it for six months, if you contact uzbek consular. This option is given to have enough time to exchange it back home. I wish uzbek government could exchange it like others do.

CrazyDT,
When did this rule take effect? I am asking because a couple of years ago Uzbek Consulate has exchanged my passport for. Via mail, I sent them copies of my birth certificate and pertinent information, photos, etc. They sent me a new passport. I was going to do the same when my passport expires, and now you are giving me this "oblom". Are you sure that the information you have is most current? :(

Надо идти в Российское посольство и через Российское посольство действовать по назначению.
Да,к сожилению у нас нету дипломатических отношений с этими государствами,но к щастью Россия в этом помогает Узбекистану.
Но будет...установим ;)

Yeah, I'm because I recently inquired this directly, I mean via e-mail. But if I'm wrong I'll be happy myself.

Here is the e-mail I sent:

Sorry, I can't locate it. I think I deleted.

CrazyDT,

I'll get the e-mail off their web site. Thanks for the info though. If it's true it sucks! Another way for Uzbek gov't to fleece its citizens of $700 (or however much the ticket costs now).

Thanks all for your comments

As far as I know, in Japan they are still renewing passports via mail. One of my friends recently did it here. I dont know about US, but when I checked out their homepage, I found that they have special forms for the passport renewals, what means they have a practice of renewing passports, I am not sure however if the homepage information is up to date.

Cheers

Buhorogi, trigger-happy, Hey I got this from http://www.uzbekistan.org/ site. http://www.uzbekistan.org/photos/passportrenewal.pdf

It explains how to renew your passport. I don't know what the hell this NY consular told me. I'm not sure which one is true. Could someone double check for us? I know you were going to email them. Could you please forward a definite answer?

PS At the time when I talked to this consular, the main site of embassy at washington was closed under constuction. And it was 3 weeks ago.
