View Full Version : MBA in US top Business schools.
What is the most important factor that the admissions tutors would be looking on the applicant's application when deciding who is going to be admitted and who is not. How important is GMAT? What is I am a graduate of a Univeristy in Tashkent, would I have good chances of admission with a high GMAT score?
I thank you in advance.
well, each school has their own requirements basically these requirements are bachelor diploma, 5-10 essays, GMAT and work experience. If you going to pay for your study then it much more easy to get in, however if you applying for a scholarship you need at least 720 on GMAT and 5- 10 years work experience.
g’d luck.

It basically depends on which University are you applying to. If you are looking for some Top 50 schools, then you should obtain at least 600 points from GMAT. Also you need to have TOEFL, since you are a foreigner to English language. Besides these, also they want to see your GPA (grade point average) which is your undergraduate points out of 4. Again, Top schools requires at least 3.00 out of 4.00. I am a Turkish student in USA.
If you need any further help, do not hesitate to ask.
Bye.

I just want to emphasize more on GMAT scores. If you have
0) High TOEFL ( more than 600 or 250 if CBT)
1) High GMAT scores
2) High GPA (3.5 at least)
3) at least two years experience in the field
4) Impressive Essay
If you have these essantials straight, go ahead apply for top ten MBA schools. Don't worry about what people say. But do not put all eggs in one basket. Apply for one average ranked MBA school.
If you have previous teaching experience you might also be eligible for Teaching Assitantship, which is very helpful when considering how to finance the education.
:2gunfire: That's very tough and competitive to get chosen for the Grad Schools...Once you are intending to study for the Scholarship or Assistanship. Almost, every univer asks for TOEFL (ranging from 550 to 620) and GRE or GMAT. But, it is not strictly required to submit GMAT or GRE report. You should contact your ISO advisor and sign up the agreement form which it says you will take final course test at the end of the completion. In short, make sure to get ready your TOEFL, Appls, Professionally written essay, Resume along with Cover Letter (if you apply for the Assistanship), Two or more academic references and Letter of financial support...

if there was one single factor - then the admissions process would be easy. Instead, a complex selection process is used:
But I will tell you: GMAT is definitely NOT a deciding factor. It is so funny that I thought it was very important when I applied to b-schools last year. Now I know that work experience matters more that the GMAT. I guess these are the good news.
then what is the most important factor? I wish I knew...
However, I know that there is nothing as important as your story. who you are? how did you become the way you are? what do you believe in? who you want to be?
Here are my observations from studying in a top business school. "The story" is something that unites all of my class-mates. it is not the same. It is unique.
Needless to say, your story must be true.
and the last comment, it is hard to make a story if someone is just out of college. it is possible but very hard. plus, as a rule, one shouldn't rush for MBA right after college: it value would be much higher with at least 2-3 yrs of work experience.
one of the good resources for research is www.businessweek.com
then go to b-school forums. However, don't take everything people say there as a rule. 90% is useless. but the rest 10% would give you the feeling about what it takes in order to get into a b-school.

MBA is pretty useless degree, unless u r graduating from top 10
MBA is pretty useless degree, unless u r graduating from top 10
I would slightly disagree.
MBA consists of 3 major parts:
1) academics
2) networking
3) job search
It would be fair to say that any good business school (i.e. not only top 10) will teach you basic business concepts. it is not the threory but practice that matters - the more practical knowledge you get the better you are equiped when you come out.
Networking is definitely better in top schools. they have more resources (not always the case but often is). they are well connected.
Job search: if the econ is doing well, everyone finds a job. if the econ is not doing well, then most people struggle for a job and then and only then a top mba could be an advantage. yet, top MBAs are expensive, so sometimes being a top 10 MBA can simply signal that you are expensive - and that is a disadvantage.
One thing I would argue why top schools are better is that they have more resources and are more willing to give it to internationals. they can take risks because the money is there.
So it all depends, I would not call non top MBA degree a useless.

I just found a cool TOEFL GRE GMAT computer-based test preparation software called EnglishMaster from http://www.computerbasedtest.com. It helps me a lot.
