View Full Version : invitation, visa for parents
I am a student in the US. What documents should I prepare to invite my parents to visit me in the USA besides an invitation letter? I would appreciate your response!

Dear guest,
All you need is an invitation letter, copy of your I-20 (or IAP-66), letter from the international student office (showing that you are really a student of that university). Don't forget to send the copy of your passport so that Embassy makes sure that you are a son of your parents :). If you could have a good reason in your invitation letter that would be even better. Ask your parents to go to the Embassy as soon as they will get all documents from you cause the date of your documents also makes an influence. Try to send current documents (no cheating:)
I guess it is all
BEST
Thank you for your reply, Smilik. Do I also need to prove that I can financially support my parents during their visit and cover other related costs?

Hey Guest,
very good question indeed. I forgot about the financial part at all. See, there may be two different kind of invitations; 1 academic (which will tell that you are a student, holding this, this credits so and so forth)2. from dean or the international students it does not matter, that says "we invite parents of .........to participate on this occasion. They are going to stay at ..........and their financial needs will be covered by their son.........". See it depends what kind of invitation they give out. You may wanna find out about it. Cause if it is gonna be a second one where they defintely gonna ask you where your parents are gonna stay and what financial support they have?
if it is a first one then it says nothing about your financial support to your parents. Embassy may requre your parents to show their financial capabilities to come to US. Then they obviously need to be prepared to show something.
My advice to you is be prepared in both cases.
1.Bank statement is fine. Either your or your parents.
2. Sponsorship is fine, too (say some firm in UZ wants to sponsor)
They all must be in document form.
Some people get it without any finacial statements but you never know what will happen. So I urge you to be prepared for everything.
No excuse my english. I couldn't proof read it. Short of time.....
BEST...
