UZBEKISTAN star striker Maxim Shatskikh notched a quick double during the opening minutes to help Dynamo Kiev defeat Metalist Kharkiv 4-2 on Wednesday, a result that secured Dynamo's 10th ever Ukraine title in the professional league and a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Dynamo have, thanks largely to Shatskikh, been potent in front of goal all season. The Kiev side have scored 61 goals in 28 league games, with Shatskikh claiming 22 of that lot to finish as the league's top scorer for the 2002/2003 season.
"It has been a great season for the players as well as myself," said Dynamo coach Alexei Mikhailichenko after the game. "But it was also a good learning experience for all of us and already I'm looking forward to next season."
Mikhailichenko replaced Valery Lobanovsky after the latter, a Ukraine legend and former national coach, had passed away at the end of last season.
Dynamo are the undoubted powerhouse of Ukraine football after nine consecutive league titles between 1992 to 2001, a run that was only broken by Shakhtar Donetsk’s championship win last season.
