I partly agree with you, but I never knew that Oksana had ONLY silver medal from olympics. I think she has GOLD medal from Barselona 92.
Same badbashara, Armen Bagdasarov can Never be the first athlete who won an Olympic gold for Independent Uzbekistan because Oksana Chusovitina and Lina Cheryazova earned gold medals long before him.
It is very hard to point out only one athlete as a greatest one. There are many of them, football players from Pakhtakor 79 were all great and will remain great. Sobir Ruziev also represented Uzbek sport .

Husanhon Muhiddinov was the first great Uzbek football player and "Muskomanda"(muslim team) in Kokand was the first National team in Uzbekistan. It is hard to say that they were Uzbek since there was no Uzbekistan and no Uzbek nation in early 19000ies, there was Turkistan and there were Turks or just Muslims. Today, main stadium in Kokand bears the name of this brilliant fotball player and Kokand is considered a birthplace of Uzbek (?) soccer.
There are many other greats like Renat Dasaev, Birodar Abduraimov. From yongerones Azamat Abduraimov, Mirjalol Kosimov, Ramil Ganiev (holds Asian record on Decathlon, Athletics) and many-many others.
Hovewer, I would like to point out one great son of our nation. His name is RUFAT RISQIEV. This athlete's achievments were truely astonishing. He was the most famous athlete in Uzbekistan in 60-70ies. Various TV shows were shot about him, many articles and books were written. His athletic carrier is the most exciting and interesting. His talent and gift in boxing attracted Muhammed Ali (Casius Clay) who later visited Uzbekistan.
This great athlete is also famous with his modesty and other good humanly qualities.
There was one young boxer who won a world championship, Utkirbek Haydarov. His boxing style, apearinace al very much resembled to Rufat. Unfortunately, I do not know what this guy is doing right now.
