Islam calls people not to get involved too much with dunyaa. There are many ayats in holy Quraan about the evils of dunya. Allah (c.c) and his Messanger calls muslim to work for Ahira.

However for me it seems that, sometimes we, imperfect humans misinterprete the true meanings of those ayats and hadiths.

What I think is that giving up on everything has cost us too much in the last 5-4 centuries. We gave up working, gave up thinking, gave up studying gave up hearing and seeing.

Maybe giving up on dunyaa means restraining oneself from unhealthy, sinful and nonsence things like thirst for women, gambling, drinking, putting money ahead of everything else, decieving others with the purpose of getting rich etc.

As for me caring for ahira means impurifying the soul, restraining from sin, fulfilling the obligations and committing sawaab. At the same time it means being strong both mentally and physically. Prophet Muhammed (SAV) in his one of hadiths says that he prefers a strong muslim to a weak muslim (from Buhariy's sahih collection if i am not mistaken). Only strong and intelligent muslims can offer help for the religion of Islaam. Being strong is the best fit for working for ahira. Muslims have sufferd enough of being weak. Today the whole muslim world has been humiliated by some Jews and Christians.
I think its not time to live like darweshs, but winning the aahira making the dunyaa obey us

Maybe its time to call people for getting wealthy both spiritually and materially for the sake of Allah and Islaam?
What do you think?
