UZBEKS BEAT LATVIANS AMID
PREPARATIONS FOR ASIAN CUP-2004

The national football team of Uzbekistan held a friendly match with the national team of Latvia August 20 with Latvia's capital Riga hosting the game, Jahon reported August 21.

According to the report, the Uzbek team performed exceptionally well and secured a result of 3:0. The friendly match came amid wide-scale preparations of the Uzbek team for the Asian championship to be held in China in 2004.

The Uzbek capital Tashkent is expected to host a qualification for Asian Cup-2004.

"So far we are challenged by the national team of Thailand," Mr. Ravshan Khaidarov, the team's head coach, has been quoted as saying in an interview to Jahon.

Uzbekistan is in group A standing alongside Thailand, Tajikistan, and Hong Kong, which is said to have faced Madrid's Real two weeks with Zidane, Carlos, Beckham, and Ronaldo leading the ball for Madrid.
