Gross domestic product (GDP) of Uzbekistan increased by 4% in nine months of 2003. The inflation decreased from 17.4 in January-September 2002 to 0.3% in the same period of 2003.
the budget deficit made up 0.1% of the GDP
(eto uje otlichno,v turkey kogda budget deficit sostavlyayet 5-6 % of GDP , delayetsya devalvatsia i nachinayetsya ekonomicheskiy krizis,v danniy period v turkey etosostavlyayet gde to 4 % )
Industrial production grew by 5.7%, agricultural output by 4.7%, retail trade by 4.9% and paid services by 6.4%. Investments in fixed assets increased by 2.8%.
(etomu mojno ujene verit)
The balance of foreign trade was US$515 million in Uzbekistan´s favour due to increase in the country’s export.

Let me reiterate: "Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything."

The important point is that there is always difference between statistical datas of Uzbekistan and the other international organistaions. The interesting thing is that Uzb govt says nothing against these datas while the datas given by int.organisations are always very low.
About inflation I can say that after closing the borders nobody needed $ so it is artificial thing. After some period of time if UzB again opens its borders, in my opinion inflation will soar!!!
It is possible that we have positive GDP growth, whether it is 4% or less is matter of estimating. Uzbekistan did not have any industrial production, so it is naturally we should see increase in GDP growth, at least due to increase in industrial production. The more interesting questiion is why population is getting poorer if GDP growht is positive? If GDP growth is positive and population growth is less than GDP growth, then nation should experience at least a modest increases in income, right? And if it does not, then someone else does, because positive growth can't just disappear. Then a really interesting question, who is getting better off, and who is experiencing that 4% GDP growth in his/her pockets? Now we thinking...
