Is it wrong to say that Habib Ali Jifry looks like the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace)?

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate. May His abundant blessing and most perfect of peace be on His Beloved Prophet, the best of creation, and his family, companions and followers.

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

We objectively know how the Beloved of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) looked, through the descriptions of his noble person in the works of hadith, particularly those on shama'il (description of the person, character, and conduct of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace)).

As to whether Habib Ali (may Allah preserve him) looks like that, it is a matter of judgment. It would not be surprising, as he is a righteous scholar who avidly follows the sunna of his great grandfather, the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace), whom he is directly descended from, outwardly and inwardly.

Wassalam,

I should have pointed out that neither www.sunnipath.com nor Sh. Faraz Rabbani are in any way associated with the above post featuring a picture of Habib `Ali. It was my decision to post the picture and the words following are my words.

Forgive me for any harm caused.

A past answer:

Photographs: please clarify where you stand

Answered by Sidi Faraz Rabbani

A.I say this with no offense to you because this website is amazing… but in terms of photography, you say that it is forbidden to have pictures of living beings, but some of the advertisements on this website contain pictures of people. Can you clarify?

Q. Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

Jazak Allah khayr for your genuine counsel (nasiha). However,

a) The answers explain that there are two sound scholarly positions on photography, and that my teachers and I adhere to the more precautious and (in our understanding) stronger position: that photographs of humans and animals constitute impermissible picture-making, which the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) forbade.

However, the opinion that photography differs from picture-making is also a position adopted by many genuinely god-fearing scholars and jurists of Islam, and is permitted (and not blameworthy) to follow. There is no condemnation or blame in matters of genuine scholarly disagreement—as opposed to aberrant or very weak positions.

b) The pictures are on external links we have no control over.

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
