Allah's Attributes "in us"

Answered by Shaykh Gibril Haddad
Question:
Enlighten on Allah's attributes in us. How is Allah's Noor a part of us. Does that mean that HIS Allah's Love and Goodness is in us? Do we as human beings always reflect His Love and Goodness? Please give more light on this and correct my thoughts as necessary.

None of the Attributes of Allah Most High are in us or any other creature because His Attributes are uncreated and without beginning whereas all our attributes without exception whatsoever are created and have a beginning. However, some of these respective attributes share names, such as the attribute of life, although there is no resemblance whatsoever beyond this nominal aspect. What is "in us" is rather the act and the effect of the Divine Attributes which He creates in us through His all-encompassing power or qudra, as Allah Most High said: {He is all-powerful over all things} and {Allah created all things}. He has commanded us to live and die upon love and goodness for Him and His obedient creatures, and upon hatred of sin and the propagators of corruption. He creates in us the power to obey Him and to act upon His commands at the time we intend to do that, and requites us accordingly either here or hereafter or both. And He has called belief and guidance "Nur." This light belongs to Him as does everything else He creates, but it is not part of Him because, as we said, nothing created is in Him nor issues from Him; nor is He made of parts. He is unimaginably exalted (subhan) beyond all such things.
