Hi, I am the webmaster of a site that deals with languages and scripts ( http://www.geonames.de/ (http://www.geonames.de/) ). At the moment I am looking for language examples for my site. So I would like to know if anyone here can translate Article 1 of the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights" into any of these languages: Low German, Manx, Kashubian, Pushto, Bengali, Punjabi, Konkani, Kashmiri, Dhivehi (Maldivian), Telugu, Tamil, Chechen, Tsonga, Venda, Karachay-Balkar, Kumyk, Karakalpak, Bashkir, Altai, Khakassian, Chuvash, Karaim, Kalmyk, Tibetan, Lao, Cherokee, Papiamento.

The English version is:

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.

The Russian version is:

Все люди рождаются свободными и равными в своем достоинстве и правах.
Они наделены разумом и совестью и должны поступать в отношении друг друга в духе братства.

thanks for visiting this forum. Unfortunately, even though we understand many of the languages you have listed, I am not sure if I can translate from English or Rusian to those languages. However, some time ago we argued about the correctness of the Uzbek version of it. The actual version came accross on the internet is very unclear and contains a lot of errors.
Here is what we suggest for Uzbek version:
English:

Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.

Uzbek:

Har bir shaxs irqi, rangi, jinsi, tili, dini, siyosiy va boshqa fikrlari, milliy yoki ijtimoiy kelib chiqishi, mulki, biror tabaqaga mansubligi va boshqa holatlardan qat’iy nazar mazkur Bayonnomada e’lon qilingan barcha huquq va erkinliklarga xech bir istisnosiz tarzda ega bo’lishi kerak. Bundan tashqari, xech bir shaxs o'zi mansub bo'lgan davlat yoki o'lkaning mustaqilligi, muhtorligi yoki qaramligiga qaramasdan ushbu davlat yoki o'lkaning siyosiy, huquqiy va xalqaro maqomiga asoslanib ajratilmasligi lozim.

Dear G'aribiy,
thank you very much for your reply. As far as I know the Universal Declaration of Human Rights consists of 30 articles dealing with all sorts of human rights. So article 1 is just the first part and shall only give a very general idea of the whole declaration. So I do not agree with you that this part should be changed. If you translate the English version of article 1 into Uzbek it may well be this text that I found on the net quite often:

Barcha odamlar erkin, qadr-qimmat ba huquqlarda tang bo'lib tug'iladilar.
Ular aql va vijdon sohibidilar va bir-birla iga birodarlarcha muomala qilishlari zarur.

Or are there particular grammatical errors that need to be corrected?

wfroede, I think I gave you a different example. This one is also from human rights declaration. Link is here: http://www.language-museum.com/index.htm
This site also gives one part of the Declaration in many languages and the Uzbek version was very ridiculous. I emailed them and suggested our (correct) version but never heard from them.
As for this one, yes there are some things are wrong. It is obvious that who wrote the version you sited here is written by someone who knows Uzbek language in intermediate level I guess.
The English version is:

O'zbek version:

Barcha odamlar ozod xamda teng qadr-qimmat va huquqli bo'lib tug'iladilar.
Insonlarga aql va vijdon berilgan va ular bir-birlariga birodarlarcha munosabatda bo'lishlari lozim.
