- A parliamentary election campaign began in Uzbekistan on Thursday. -
The nomination of candidates will begin on October 20 and will end on November 10, said a statement by the Uzbek Central Election Commission issued on Thursday. The parliamentary election in the country is scheduled for December 26.
The new parliament will for the first time consist of the upper house – the Senate and the lower house – the Legislative Chamber. A total of 120 deputies are to be elected to the lower house. The upper house will consist of 100 senators.
Sixteen of them will be appointed by the president, while the others will be elected at the sessions of district, regional and city deputies.
The existing parliament brings together 250 deputies, who were elected in 1999 for the term of five years.
