Dude,
Before I left Uzbekistan, I was walking around center of Tashkent with my girl-friend. We sat on the bench and started making out, suddenly militsiya came down. They took my passport and wanted to take me to their office/jail/whatever.
It was the day before I had to go on the interview with US Counsel. So, I said why don't I pay fine, because I knew that would not refuse a bribe. So they took my money and started searching my backpack see if I got something that is worth taking away. They haven't found anything, except some more money. They took it away and left. I was so happy to get my passport back, but simultaneously I was pissed off. From now on, I am really scared of militia.
Even this summer when I came here from US, they would still give some trouble while I was on the way home. Guys/Girls, I don't think it will ever change. Unless, the mentality of the new generation will change a little bit. Bribery and harrassment is the only way people can survive in Uzbekistan. Start with your university instructors. If they live on their salary they will not survive, so during the finals or whatever it is called they take bribes. They even have set prices for that A-cost this much, B-cost this much. That's crazy!
Anyways, keep posting stuff like that. It is always interesting to hear.
Peace, Spydernet
