If you want to buy red roses for Valentine's Day, you could end up in jail
Here is Reuters story:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=573&ncid=757&e=1&u=/nm/20050213/od_nm/saudi_valentines_dc

Florists say the move is part of an annual campaign by the committee -- whose members are known as "mutawwaeen" or volunteers -- to prevent Saudis marking a festival they believe flouts their austere doctrine of "Wahhabi" Islam.

"They pass by two or three times a day to check we don't have any red flowers," said a Pakistani florist in Riyadh's smart Sulaimaniya district.

"For the last week, we've had no red in the shop," said Ahmed, a flower shop manager. "You can't even have red cards."

Ko'rdingmi Samimiy, odamlar birinchi bo'lib Islomni "yomonlik"laridan gapirib boshlaydi. Ko'pxotinlilik haqida gap ketsa, Islomni tanqid qilib boshlaydi. A buyog'da hindu baraxmanlar 10 talab xotin oladi...

Shunday, daje Amerikaday "uta rivojlangan" davlatda ham mormonlarda hozir ham kup xotinlik bor ekan. Mormon cherkovini rasmiy ravishda kup xotinlilikni bekor qilgan bulsa ham Amerikada kamida 30000ta kup xotinlik erkaklar bor ekan. Yaqinda Utah shtati parlamenti azosi bulgan xotin kup xotinlilikni himoya qilib chiqib baloga qolgan edi.

I[ A JL JL O D']Ha...men ham o'sha "sick", "choknutiy"lar qatoridaman. Man osha kasalligimdan hursandman, mag'rurlanaman va Hudo hohlasa shundoq kasal bo'lib o'tib ketaman ! Agar "avliyo" Valentin kunini nishonlash sog'lik bo'lsa, ilohim manga hech qachon shifo bermasin !

Nu esli ti sebya takim shitaesh...mne to chto.

St.Valetines has more to do with fun than a Christian celebration.

I do not celebrate it, and never did. I think people make a big deal out of it.

But then again...it is rather stupid to arrest a person if they want to buy a rose. It is not against Islam to show your wife/your loved one some affection, even if it is some western celebration. So, peace out. U won't rot in hell for buying a rose for your wife on St. V day. It is always allowed to have some fun, no one is saying you have to go to a Church and pray.

I have no whatsoever respect to the Saudi Arabian kingdom, they are all sheeps in wolves clothes. Come here by the Summer, we have a lot of the Royalty of Saudi Arabia here and you will see..they do not only celebrate but party their butts off. From drinking Princes to lesbian princess. Nice, huh? But then again I am not to judge. The only thing I know is that they are showmakers...

Omad.

Royal I did not say it represents the country or the nation...but I am not fond of the Kingdom, personally. I think I do have the right to have my own opinion on it, do not I? Like I said...I wont judge

It is a repressed society.

I can not be bothered to talk about this again.

Bye.

I[ A JL JL O D']Ok, but what is the basis for that fun, what is the concept behind the entire celebrations ?! (please think about it thoroughly, do some research on the net)

The concept behind these celebration, which is only once in a year, is to show your loved one that you basically love them. That is the whole idea of it. Once in a year where you show your "love" to a person. It is nothing serious, some people just enjoy it...even little kids enjoy it...On valentines day in school u wont get cards from anonymous admirers and all that stuff. It has become more of a tradition for a lot of people not a Christian celebration. But you have to agree with me that arresting a person for only that, is pathetic? Fine...if they do not want to celebrate it they should not, but to arrest one is too far, imho. Plus, they restricted it to EVERYONE. Do not forget there are Diplomats who tend to celebrate it. ;)

Do you celebrate "New Year"? or "Indepedance day of Uzbekistan"?

Another point in this issue is that, by celebrating St.Valentines day you are imitating the traditions and customs of unbelievers.

I do not celebrate it. And there is nothing to celebrate about it except buying a card or a little gift. And nothing is wrong with that. These days a lot of people celebrate tradtions and customs of so called "unbelievers" without even having the knowledge of it. Would not a cake for a birthday party be considered in your words as a tradition/custom of "ubelievers"? We can go further away and we could add that even buying a coffee in Startbuchks would be imitating a form of "western (american)" custom.

On what basis did you make your last statement ? That is what I hate about some of our muslims (people form Central Asia, especially from rich metropolitan, westernised areas such as Tashknet), they are unaware even about the basic principles of Islam (e.g. I never knew kalima shahad till the age of 14-15 ), don't follow their religion in nearly any aspect of their life (e.g. dealing with banks, consumption of haram, not praying even once a week), yet they make statements as if they have studied Islam their entire life. Let me ask you some question: what is the level of your religious education, did you study anywhere, do you follow even the basic teachings of Islam (five times prayer, one month fast, giving regular charity(zakaat)), do you abstain from major sins (consumption of haram, adultery and fornication, dealing with interest, etc), how often do you attend to Islamic programs ?

I take time to do research on Islam. Yeah, I do not know a lot of things about Islam, but I know the basics and if I need something urgent and more accurate I always take the time to do a research or even call my aunts who follow Islam strictly.Or I just ask questions...which is not a sin is it? Or is everyone in your opinion who ask questions questions even that seem basic for you, a bad person? My basic religious education is better than most of the people from the "westernized city of CA". I knew them since a young girl, thank God to my good schools, they taught us the basics and I try to take more courses in University on Religion. And I started reading the Koran in the age of 14 the first time....not till the end though, and then I stopped but I want to resume it when I get my book from Tashkent. I have friends who follow Islam strictly as well, and they tell me interesting things as well..so my knowledge is not that poor. I read the prayers sometimes, and have been taught few of them when I was younger. I have been told I should not hurry too much with it, I can start slowly with things and not learn everything in one day. It surely takes patience do learn everything..don't you agree? What I do and what I did, should not concern you. it is only between me and God. I do not judge you, or can you judge me. I have my own perception on things...it does not suit a lot of people, but I am the who has to live my life and I am the one who will answer next to God, true or not?

Hate is a harsh word, do not you think? Do not you have to be tolerant towards "unbelievers" and guide them the best you can?

Maybe not all of them... (do you agree with me ?)

Of course, I do. I can not generalize. ;)
