Mercedes-Benz calls the new S65 AMG the "world's quickest four-door car."
The latest creation from AMG, the world-renowned high-performance division of Mercedes-Benz, is the S65 AMG. Power comes from a hand-built 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, which produces an astonishing 604 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque.

Mercedes-Benz states that zero to sixty mph acceleration on a test track will take just 4.2 seconds. The S65 AMG is equipped with ABC active suspension with special AMG spring struts, reworked ESP stability control, and ASR traction control system.

The AMG twin-spoke 19-inch wheels carry 245/40 ZR 19 high-performance tires on the front and 275/35 ZR 19 tires on the rear. The S65 AMG is equipped with eight piston calipers and compound brake rotors for the front brakes.

To provide a better view of the impressive AMG powerplant in the S65, Mercedes brought an AMG technician to Chicago. This technician was actually assembling an AMG twin-turbo V12 on the Mercedes-Benz display. Mercedes officials say it takes about eight worker hours to assemble the engine.

2005 Mazda RX-8 'SHINKA' Special Edition

Mazda RX-8 special edition model. This special production RX-8 was revealed during the 2005 Chicago Auto Show to coincide with the fact that the SHINKA edition was beginning to arrive at local Mazda dealers. Power train choices consist of a six-speed manual fitted with a 238 horsepower rotary engine that spins to a heady 9,000 rpm, or a Sport A/T-equipped cars equipped by a 198 horsepower engine tuned specifically to take advantage of the automatic's gear ratios. To further enhance driving performance and ride comfort, SHINKA features a uniquely tuned suspension system, upgraded from the standard car. Offered only in a rich black cherry body color offset by a soft parchment tan leather interior, SHINKA also is distinguished by semi-gloss bezels for the headlamps and rear combination taillights as well as dark-silver gloss aluminum wheels. Also standard on the RX-8 SHINKA is a 300-watt Bose sound system with in-dash six-disc CD changer. While many Mazda vehicles are pre-wired for satellite radio, SHINKA models will be the first to be equipped as standard, as all cars will include a one-year subscription to Sirius. To add to the exclusivity of the 2005 RX-8 SHINKA, Mazda plans on building only 2,150 examples.

Lexus LF-A

Lexus unveiled the LF-A two-seat concept that beautifully blends the performance of an exotic sports car with the luxury refinements of a Lexus. The LF-A was theoretically developed to run a parallel course to the corporate efforts in Formula One racing with an engine capable of developing more than 500 horsepower from a displacement of less than five liters. With a combination of optimum gearing, weight and aerodynamics, the LF-A concept would produce a top speed in the neighborhood of 200 miles per hour. Although it is about five inches shorter in length than the Porsche 911 Turbo, its wheelbase is nine inches longer. Inside, the LF-A is designed as a luxury high-speed capsule that blends extravagant comfort with precision operation. The Lexus LF-A concept is a clear indication of the path that Lexus' global design will follow in the near future.

Grand Sports Tourer 'Vision R'
Mercedes-Benz Grand Sports Tourer 'Vision R'

Visitors to the 2005 Chicago Auto Show were given a preview of a future Mercedes model series with the Grand Sports Tourer ‘Vision R’. Designed as a 4+2-seat touring car, the Vision R combines the advantages of familiar vehicle concepts such as a sporty wagon, van and sport utility vehicle to create a new category in its own right.

Nissan AZEAL Concept

With a fresh interpretation of a high performance entry-level sporty car, Nissan has released photos of the new AZEAL Coupe Concept. With an emphasis on personality and aggressive styling, AZEAL is the first concept car created at the new Nissan Design America (NDA) studios in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Exterior styling features short front and rear overhangs, wide fender flares accenting 19-inch wheels, and a sharply sloped rear roofline with integrated active airfoil. The distinctive glass-panel roof is bisected by a body color ‘Mohawk, ’ and the top includes structural rails with built-in clips for mounting roof racks. Power is provided via a turbocharged, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Handsome 2+2 interior includes "Sinister Gunmetal" instrument panel, contrasted by perforated dark leather seats with Wasabi Chartreuse inserts. Nissan stated that the choice to accent the cockpit with chartreuse was to signify the growing creative energy of its new NDA studio.
