Schumpeter and his 'creative destruction' ROCKS!!! :) It's everywhere, you even get sick of it ....
But then again Keynesian school of thought is bedrock of contemporary economics
Sorry I can't choose

Paul Samuelson. Launched the era of the mathematization of economics and more (http://cepa.newschool.edu/het/profiles/samuelson.htm) and once again (http://nobelprize.org/economics/laureates/1970/samuelson-bio.html)
An unconfirmed anecdote has it that at the end of Samuelson's dissertation defense, Schumpeter turned to Leontief and asked, "Well, Wassily, have we passed?"

I could. XXI century will be Schumpeterian.
P.S. Creative destruction not creative disruption.

I like N Gregoriy Mankiw, as a perfect Economics Researcher and book writer, at least.

I voted for Adam Smith, because he is considered the founder of economics. Btw, some say by the "invisible hand" he meant God.
anatoliydaev, another anecdote about Paul Samuelson. Before he became an economist, he was a phisycist. When he switched to economics, some physicists said that "the average IQs in both fields increased". Not a very flattering comment for economists, of course. :(

I think John Nash should also have been in the poll. Although strictly speaking he is not an economist, his contributions to the field are huge. After Pareto efficiency, Nash equilibrium is probably the most common term you hear in economics today .
Адам Смит, который без всяких сложных формул и графиков
обяснил экономическую теорию
