Soldiers in Uzbekistan have fired on protesters in the eastern town of Andijan, killing at least one person and sparking mass panic.

Troops sealed off the towm after thousands of prisoners, including 23 men accused of Islamic extremism, were freed by armed men in a jailbreak. Earlier nine people were killed after shots were fired into the crowd.


Correspondents say the unrest seems linked to anger over the treatment of prisoners, poverty, unemployment and other social problems. [/size]

I know of no country in the world which would tolerate a massive prison breakout. The rest of Uzbekistan should be thankful that the military is stepping in and trying to control the situation.

Without the help nothing will change even if all inhabitants will rise. Tyrants remain tyrants till the grave. It is not a secret for anybody here in Uzbekistan. We only hope for better times. We need support from outside. We need help.

Russia will not and should not allow an Islamic state on its borders. I hope Russian president applies pressure and supports Karimov. A secular dictator is much better than an Islamic state for us, Russians, and for the world security in general.

Uzbekistan does not need to become an Islamic state, just look at the example of other countries, they are ruled under dictatorship. Religion will not do good, the truth that sets everyone free will. I am glad that people stood up for themselves in this tyranny. I believe that one day Karimov and his government will answer before many for what he has been doing to his country and people. I hope that one day justice will prevail.

The time has come for the current regime to step down and let people choose a real leader that will hopefully be fair to its own people and ultimately himself. This guy is going to end up dead someday in a very unpleasant manner. You can't abuse the whole country and get away with it so easily.

Uzbekistan has human rights abuses for sure. They are no threat to the US and we have our hands full right now. Someone else will have to handle this one. Maybe the EU or UN could take care of this one.

Did any of the protesters/rebels say anything about their demand to build an Islamic state? Why has everyone fallen into trap of this stereotype??? If you want to have you brothers freed, what does Islam have to do with this? If you want to have enough money to eat and buy cloth, what does Islam have to do with this? If people want to live freely, why should Islam be blamed for that? Aren't all these things universal for all people???

ну сколько можно сидеть и хлопать ушами и верить сказке про "исламских" фундаменталистов? Ведь кому как ни вам, узбекистанцам, ясно что данные события стали результатом дикой и жестокой политики Каримова? Народ нищенствует, в селькой местности с каждого села десятками люди уехали на заработки куда попало. Женщины от безысходности мардикорами/проститутками становятся. На фоне этого, вы видите шикарные особняки и дорогие игрушки правительственных воров. Ежегодный пир во время чумы на площади Мустакиллик каждого 1 сентября. Не это ли сплошное издевательство над народом.

Послушайте организаторов этой акции. Радио Свободная Европа транслирует их выступления - им подавно никакого Исламского государства не нужно. Всего лишь человеские права - право на жизнь. Разве это много чего они хотят? Митингующие требовали свободы слова и справедливость, прекращение правительственного беспредела.

Проанализируйте события, у вас же есть на то голова! К кому обратились сразу повстанцы? Стали бы исламисты обращатся за помощью к главе одной из самых крупных христианских стран имеющей собственную проблему с исламистами? Ведь они обратились к Путину с надеждой на помощь. И ни один из крупных оплотов так называемой "псевдо-демократии" на осудил действия правительства, расстрелявшего своих детей и женщин. Лишь Европа выразила "озабоченность".

Сейчас, правительственные преступники во главе с Каримовым разыгрывают "исламистскую карту" перед Западом. Обратите внимание, как на Западе и в России делали акцент в телепередачах на "23 мусульманских бизнесменов"? Почему не просто бизнесменов? Где еще существует понятия "буддийский" или "христианский" бизнесмен? Как только около израильского посольства охранники убили подозреваемого, так все западные канали кричали о попытке теракта. Однако, даже спустя 6-8 часов после опровержения и признания факта расстрела мирного гражданина, CNN и FOX крутили бегущую строку с новостью о теракте. А как очевидное стало явным, они тихо убрали эту новость без опровержения. Зато "исламский" фактор все время остается на переднем фронте.

Некоторые друзья, прекратите быть наивными. Как говорят на английском, get a reality check! Иначе бы мои знакомые находящиеся в США и имеющие семью в Андижане не говорили бы "страшно за родителей и сильно переживаю, но так хочется чтобы этого подонка свергли".

Пора! Чаша терпения давно переполнилась! Долой Каримова!
