Your school's calendar year

I am quiet confused with my school's calendar year. Fall semester starts in septemeber and ends in december 14th. Spring semester is Jan 26th-May 18th. There are final weeks after each semester. So my winter break is ~1 month. And the summer break is more than 3 month. And i find it to be to much. I just wonder if it is the same in every american school. Do you have the same school calendar year? If not, what are the differences? Especially i am interested in the summer break.
P.S. I am not talking about high schools but Colleges or Universities.

I don't know what about US colleges and universities, but here in Sweden my summer break begins from June 3 and the Fall semester starts in September 1.
