You think US cares about small country thousand miles away. I am sure that majority of people in Congress and The House of Representatives had never heard about it. It is all bullshit that US is a messenger of freedom, for every war US was involved in, it had its own reasons, everything but freedom. The Newsweek article story which was in the news lately totally destroyed the image of America as a Messenger of freedom, it showed that US doesn't give a damn about culture of people they are trying to give freedom. Everyone now sees that US is double faced. Why you think it didn't support people that were dying in millions in Africa, Rwanda 10 years ago, Sudan recently? Cause there is no any oil or something else of that sort. It watched silently how millions were killed and you think it is going to do something when thousands die, well, NO.

(Before you say anything about Uzbekistan and USA relationship be very careful, watch your language and try to use diplomatic language here. (for some punks, this is not your mama's joke))
---------------------------------------------------

And now, let's get back to the topic.
How about, first answer a few questions,

What does USA want from Uzbekistan?
What can USA do at this point?
USA wants to see all the post Soviet countries to be democratic countries.
USA always looks for good allies and friends all over, in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, North America,,
For example, a recent visit of The President George W Bush to Republic of Georgia became a vivid example for most former soviet republics how to build democratic country and a good relationship with USA.
Georgian president is young, pro-western, he wants his country to join NATO and eventually EU. Go for it Georgians!!!

What about Uzbekistan? Uzbekistan has been frozen in the same system since a fall of USSR. Uzbekistan needs democratic changes? yes, no question about it. But not like Andizhan way. I have never seen anywhere says you can kill people, soldiers or anybody or free prisoners and use those a thousand of innocent people like a human shield. That is totally wrong. What kind of options does The President of Uzbekistan, Islam A Karimov have at this point?
He is still a people elected legal President of the country, we all know that it is time for him to retire and let young people lead the country but there is a question for everybody: is Uzbekistan ready for such a change at this stage?
maybe Uzbekistan still needs President Islam A. Karimov? From my point of view, this is the reason why President of USA, George W. Bush is concern about Uzbekistan. It is like a "you can not live with him and you can not live without him" situation. If Islam A. Karimov leaves the power, who does Uzbekistan have for his post? If it does, can he/she lead the nation towards the democracy and build a a good relationship with USA, EU and Russia? Or he will take the country back to Halifat or Islamic regime?
For example, if you look back to history of Uzbekistan, early 20th century, when Russians came to Turkistan, first Governor of Turkistan Kaufman, the country was having pretty bad time not knowing what way to go, clans were fighting one another, no civilization, no human rights.
Thanks to Russians those small khanates or i would say independent countries became one Uzbekistan, not mentioning that Russian brought a lots to Uzbekistan and its people. After having been with Russians so may years, Uzbekistan is still behind and can not get on its feet and having hell of time.
Uzbekistan should follow all democratic countries, like EU, USA, Canada, Australia not Arab World or Islamic countries.
My conclusion is the country needs The President Islam A. Karimov now.
People do not want some religious extremists come to power.
Questions for all:
What kind of Party in Uzbekistan will take over current one?
How come people do not even know how many parties registered at Senate or or ever exist?
How come people still do not know their rights as well as people in Western countries?
Why some people when they say country or government they always associate it with Islam or religion?
Last questions, how come Uzbeks can not play soccer very well? to my knowledge they are barely dragging in the Asian League not mentioning UEFA. (laughing..)
anyways, I have tons of questions but I am not sure somebody will give good answers for them.
