BATTLEFIELD BAND & MUSICIANS AND DANCERS FROM UZBEKISTAN
ON THE GREAT SILK ROAD
The 'On The Great Silk Road' UK Tour features Scottish traditional music legends Battlefield Band, and as their guests, four leading Uzbek musicians, two Uzbek dancers and two Scottish dancers, showing off two vibrant musical and dance traditions, and taking the opportunity to perform together, offering an exotic mix of East and West, united under one banner: ‘On the Great Silk Road’.
The Tour is now well underway, having been to Whitehaven, Galashiels, Ardrossan, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Darlington, Inverness, Aberdeen and Portree - where the show received a standing ovation - apparently the first time that's happened in that venue in 10 years! The great opening concert in the Rosehill theatre in Whitehaven went really smoothly, sounded and looked fantastic, and went down brilliantly - which seems to have set the tone for the tour. Miss this show at your peril! Remaining tour dates are listed below. See the battlefield band website for more information on the tour.
'...the Uzbek’s contribution was a mighty advertisement for their culture. Instrumentally, they were superb, playing flute, the two-stringed, long-necked dutar, the fiddle-like gijak and not one but three hand-held – and latterly – juggled drums with tremendous skill, stamina and feeling. Their two dancers were a mobile display of colourful costumes and eloquent hand gestures as they interpreted broodingly expressive songs of love and – we were reliably informed – a bit more than love.'
