well, if it is IAK u r assuming, then IMHO what brought him to power was his ability to worship those who had more power as if they were his God (temporarily), and treat tbose who had lower status as if they were his slaves.
Incredibly intelligent? well even if you remove "incredibly", I would still hesitate to use intelligent with regards to this moron.
Highly informed man? highly informed about what? maybe economics? or politics?
To my mind he does not know a sh*t about economics, but I have to agree with you that he has gained a good experience in politics during his reign. Actually, if a chimp were to be elected in 90's as the President of the RU, I am inclined to think that he (the chimp) could have gained the same, if not more, experience in political games than this as**ole did.

just remembered my dream which I had tonight.
Karimov was here, and we were waiting for him in a small room, then he came in, everybody stood up to great him, but I did not, then he asked me why I had not sta up when he entered the room.
I replied, in Islam people don't stand up, if somebody enters the room where people has gathered, it is the person who enters teh room greets people and takes his seat.
He was silent for a long time, then everything changed, people were chasing me in my faculty building, and I was saying to them, that it was impossible to catch me there, as I knew the builiding too well.
then I don't remember anything.

You say Karimov has made mistakes (probably u were assuming he has made FEW mistakes) as all leaders do. Now can you please name me the mistakes he had made according to you?

You say Karimov is trying to stabilize Uzbekistan and make it into a modern society. Again I suppose you are making an assumption that a non-modern society would be the caliphate (which in turn means, IF I AM RIGHT ABOUT YOUR ASSUMPTION, that you see the caliphate as the only substitute for Karimov’s regime. In other words, you say there are only 2 choices: Karimov’s secular regime, or Hizb-ut Tahrir (or caliphate, or you can call in any way you like. The meaning will still be the same) and there is no third choice. Again, I am coming out of your assumptions. If this is not your assumption, please tell me what you mean by “Karimov is trying to make UZ into a MODERN society?

I am open to civilized discussions, and who knows, maybe you will change my mind about this person. So, please defend your position and prove me that mine is wrong.

I think you are disappointed and angry with Karimov for being a great leader and a very important person when Uzbekistan is in danger of falling in the hands of islamic fundamentalists and to instate an islamic state like Taliban made Afganistan.We must support Karimov to conquer the islamic fundamentalists that wants to instate sharia law in the country! We already have too many coutries with sharia law!

I think I laid it out pretty clearly and everyone with even the slightests understanding should be able to understand. The real logical fallacy is this: "I have a problem with people who support Islamic State and teach their children to blow up themselves for the sake of God."

I agree with Stanford. IMHO Karimov is a very intelligent person, but it doesn't make him a good ruler and a president. Everyone knows that he is an excellent public speaker and uzbek people actually do believe in what he says, even though there is no a single true word in any of his speeches.

Hitler once said that people are tend to believe in a BIG lie than a Small lie. Hitler was a brilliant public speaker, people believed in every single word he said. So is Karimov!

I, personally, met Karimov once. When he shaked my hand, I tried to look deep into his eyes and I tell you one thing, guys: these eyes were not happy eyes. I saw so much sorrow and exhaustion in them and honestly I felt very sorry for him. It so easy for us all to critisize him and blame everything on one person. But have we ever tried to put ourselves in his shoes? IMHO
