USA launches the 2007 Diversity Immigrant Visa Programme
UzReport.com [03:00] 03.10.2005
Embassy of the United States of America in Uzbekistan has announced the effective dates for the 2007 Diversity Visa Lottery Programme (DV-2007), a consular officer of the embassy said at press conference on 3 October.

John Ballard, Consul of the US Embassy in Tashkent, noted that this programme, which is also known as Green Card, makes available more than 50,000 immigrant visas for people wishing to immigrate to the United States. Entries for the DV-2007 Diversity Visa Lottery must be submitted electronically between 5 October and 4 December 2005.

A computer-generated lottery drawing randomly chooses applicants for Diversity Visas. The visas, however, are distributed among six geographic regions with a greater number of visas going to regions with lower rates of immigration, and with no visas going to citizens of countries sending more than 50,000 immigrants to the US in the past five years. These are: Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Russia, South Korea, United Kingdom and its dependent territories (except Northern Ireland), and Vietnam. Within each region, no one country may receive more than 7% of the available Diversity Visas in any one year.

Mr Ballard said that 1,346 individuals from Uzbekistan won Diversity Visa Lottery DV-2006 last year. The winners were notified by the Kentucky Consular Centre and will now be able to start the immigration process.

It should be noted that there is no fee required to participate in the DV-2007 programme. The annual DV programme makes permanent residence visas available to persons meeting the simple, but strict, eligibility requirements. Firstly, applicants should be natives of the country, citizens of which are eligible to apply. And, secondly, applicants should have either certificate of graduation from secondary school, or two years of work experience during the past five years.

Applicants from eligible countries, as determined by the Department of Homeland Security’s Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services, petition the Department of State for the opportunity to apply for one of 50,000 immigrant visas. Only those selected at random and notified by the Department of State will then be eligible to apply for an immigrant visa.
