Hello forumchane!:)
U menya k vam vopros. Who has been in embassies of UK or US in Russia, or just knows about them, help me please. I've learned that being an Uzbekistan citizen, it's much easier to get viza from embassies in Russia rather than in Uzbekistan, is it true? Is it possible to get a student viza for a person who doesn't know English to attend language courses in UK or US? I personally know that if a person is just a beginner consul in Uzbekistan will refuse saying that "Using this amount you can learn language here....bla bla" So what about embassies in Russia? And what kind of documents needed to show to consul, so he would say YES and nothing else?
Thank you!

I have never heard of getting student visa from Russia. Why are you in Russia and want to come to the UK or states???
You should do it from Uzbekistan I think. and also who told you that beginners can't get a visa?Nonsense! Even if they=re beginners, people always have choice, and embassadors know that and they can never say 'you can learn in Uzb with that amount' it's almost breaking human rights!
You can always come to studdy in the UK,as far as you've got good financial records to show,no matter what course you're gonna do.

good luck:)

there is no way in the hell you can get a US or UK visa in Russia.Provided you are a citizen of Uzbekistan.Visa regulations clearly state that every applicant has to apply in his/her home country of residence. In your case,it is Uzbekistan.

I have personally heard few cases when Uzbekistan citizens got student visa from Moscow based UK and Northern Ireland embassy. I also know people who were granted American visa from London based US embassy.
Yes, surely, if you make intensive research you will find the solution to get British Visa from Moscow, considering you are a citizen of Uzbekistan

As it was mentioned before a person with an Uzbakistan passport cannot apply for visa in other countries but his Motherland. but there are exceptions - if you have permanent residence in Russia (or 'moskovskaya/rossiyskaya propiska') then I suppose you have a right to apply there. I advise you to check it in the embassies in Russia.

Thanks to everyone for your response. But I've heard that just a month ago about 15 students got visa from US embassy based in Almati. I've also asked from several people about this matter. That's why I was sure that it was possible to get visa from embassies in Russia being Uzbekistan citizen.
Actually, right now I am in UK. I just wanted to help some of my friends.

I've learned it from an agency that makes business by helping people to go abroad to study. They don't deal with people whose English is at the beginner level, because as they say they don't have any chance to get visa.

If you are a resident of a certain country or have lived a certain amount of time there, only then you are eligible to go to the embassy other then your country.
I know one or two cases which had their immigration process done in Russia and not in Uzbekistan.

I personally got my UK Entry clearance from British Consulate in Moscow.
However you must have a pernament address in Russia and be registered with the police otherwise you can't apply for a visa.
US Embassy in Moscow is just a big mess if you're up to standing in a queue couple of hours and rigorous security checks just go for it. Just like above you need address + registration with the police

Royal,
You can go and apply for a visa even if you registered yesterday. Because there is a period of registration shown in your immigration card. You can register as a visitor max of 3 month, if you're studying/working up to 1 year.

What is it like? I mean what kind of documents are needed to show the registration with the police? And is reference letter from employer useful? What kind of questions may Consul ask? What amount of money is it better to have on account? etc.

OK. I'll try to answer your questions as much as I can
1.Documents for registration with the police - your passport, 2 photos (just in case some times they ask, well thier rules change every second), a letter from DomKom of the place where you gonna register. In that letter house owner must give their agreement that you're staying in thier house/flat. Registration application form you need to pick it up from the Passport office and fill in the form. Your immigration card one you fill in when you landed at the airport (if you have one)
2. Reference letter could be useful. Depending what sort of visa you're getting
3. Consul ask all sorts of questions. Usually question will be on purpose of your visit, whether or not you're planning to return home, who is sponsoring your stay in the UK.
4. Amount of money must cover at least 6 month of your stay and you should show that you have stable income covering your expences for the rest of your time in UK. Don't say that you gonna work in the UK to pay the fee if you're trying to get a student visa.
