the only thing I know about IELTS and TOEFL is that they are both requirements for enrolment, tehy don't give you much advantage in applying to scholarship. Things that are advantage: good results from Bachelors degree, qulifications, work experience, very very good research proposal, and very good two referees, and an institution which is rich.
It is easier to find science based scholarships, than law, economics based ones, as the science faculties are a lot richer than others.

Uzbek honum, IETLS and TOEFL have nothing to do with the scholarship. It all depends what results you've got in you bachelor's and any work experience for what you're applying.
Well, the first thing to do is do a search and find out which uni's have scholarships in law, that won't be easy. Because, that's very expensive course to do, UK uni's usually don't give any scholarships for internationals who want to do law as a Masters. Quite a lot scholarships are for MBA, International Development and Peace studies at my uni.nothing for law:(
But all the best,good luck!!!

Hi Lady,
I read your post earlier but had no time to repply.
I think this is interesting for some of us:

Scholarships
Scholarship Title: Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Research Fellowship
Location: Germany
Type of Scholorship: Post-Doc
Required Education: Bachelors
Description:
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation enables highly qualified, early-stage researchers from abroad, who hold doctorates, to carry out research projects of their own choice in Germany. Applications may be submitted for long-term research stays of at least 6 and at most 12 months; an extension of up to 24 months is possible. Researchers of all nationalities and disciplines may apply to the AvH directly at any time. There are no quotas for individual countries and disciplines. Funding is not available for short-term study visits, participation in
conferences, or training courses. Research fellowships are offered world-wide on a competitive basis. The most important criteria for selection are the applicant's (international) publications to date and the quality and feasibility of the research proposal. Applicants
choose their own research projects and their own German hosts. Details of the research project and the time-schedule must be agreed upon with the prospective host in advance. Applications to continue a research stay which has already begun may be considered in
exceptional cases.

Qualifications: Applicants must have earned a doctoral degree with distinction, be less than 40 years of age, and have publications in prestigious journals. Detailed eligibilty available at: http://www.humboldt-foundation.de/en/programme/stip_aus/stp.htm (http://www.humboldt-foundation.de/en/programme/stip_aus/stp.htm).
To Apply: The deadline for the application is January 4, 2006. Application information
available at: http://www.humboldt-foundation.de/en/programme/stip_aus/stp.htm (http://www.humboldt-foundation.de/en/programme/stip_aus/stp.htm)

2. Scholarship Title: ASN World Convention 2006/Call for Papers - "Nationalism in an Age of Globalization"
Region: Worldwide
Required Education: Bachelors
Description:
11th Annual World Convention Association for the Study of Nationalities (ASN)
International Affairs Building,
Columbia University, NY
Sponsored by the Harriman Institute
23-25 March 2006
Note: Early submission deadline: 2 November 2005
Proposal submission: darel@uottawa.ca (http://us.f515.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=darel@uottawa.ca)
Backup address: darel@brown.edu (http://us.f515.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=darel@brown.edu)]
Exhibitors, advertisers: gnb12@columbia.edu (http://us.f515.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=gnb12@columbia.edu)
The ASN Convention, the most attended international and inter-disciplinary scholarly gathering of its kind, welcomes proposals on a wide range of topics related to national identity, nationalism, ethnic conflict, state-building and the study of empires in Central/Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, Eurasia, and adjacent areas. Disciplines represented include political science, history, anthropology, sociology, economics, geography, socio-linguistics, psychology, and related fields.
For a third consecutive year, the 2006 Convention will feature a section devoted to theoretical approaches to nationalism, from any of the disciplines listed above. The papers in this section do not necessarily have to be grounded in an area of the former Communist bloc usually covered by ASN, provided that the issues examined are relevant to a truly comparative understanding of nationalism-related issues. In this vein, we are welcoming theory-focused and comparative proposals, rather than specific case studies from outside Central/Eastern Europe and Eurasia.
Since 2005, the ASN Convention is acnowledging excellence in graduate
studies research in offering Awards for Best Graduate Student Papers in five sections: Russia/Ukraine/Caucasus, Central Asia/Eurasia, Central Europe, Balkans, and Nationalism Studies. The winners at the 2005 Convention were Lisa Koriouchkina (Brown U, Anthropology, Russia/Ukraine/Caucasus), Evangelos Liaras (MIT, Political Science, Central Asia/Eurasia), Shannon Woodcock (U of Tirana, Anthropology, Central Europe), Jessica Greenberg (U of Chicago, Anthropology, Balkans), and Bijita Majumdar (Rutgers U, Sociology, Nationalism Studies). Graduate student applicants whose proposals will be accepted for the 2006 Convention, and whose paper is delivered by
the deadline, will automatically be considered for the awards.

The 2006 Convention is also inviting submissions for documentaries or
feature films made within the past year and available in VHS or DVD format. Most videos selected for the convention will be screened during regular panel slots and will be followed by a discussion moderated by an academic
expert.
Panels on Central Asia, the Caucasus and Eurasia at the 2005 Convention included:
- Terrorism in Chechnya
- Chechen and Ingush Scholars Reflect on Challenges and Opportunities
- Are the State of Central Asia "Nationalising States"?
- Kyrgyzstan: A Surprise Revolution and Aftermath
- Gender in Eurasia and South Asia
- Security and Insecurity in Central Asia and the Caucasus
- Afghanistan after the Taliban
- The Kurds and the Constitutional Future of Iraq
- Islam and Nationalism: Comparative Perspectives
- State and Society in Central Asia
and many more
The 2006 Convention invites proposals for INDIVIDUAL PAPERS or PANELS. A panel includes a chair, three presentations based on written papers, and a discussant. Proposals using an INNOVATIVE format are also particularly encouraged. Examples of new formats include a roundtable on a new book, where the author is being engaged by three discussants; a debate between two panelists over a critical research or policy question, following rules of public debating; or special presentations based on original papers where the number of discussants is equal or greater than the number of presenters.
The 2006 Convention is also welcoming offers to serve as DISCUSSANT on a panel to be created by the program committee from individual paper
proposals. The application to be considered as discussant can be
self-standing, or accompanied by an individual paper proposal.
There is NO APPLICATION FORM to fill out in order to send proposals to the convention. All proposals must be sent by email to Dominique Arel at darel@uottawa.ca (http://us.f515.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=darel@uottawa.ca) (backup address: darel@brown.edu (http://us.f515.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=darel@brown.edu)).
INDIVIDUAL PAPER PROPOSALS must include the name and affiliation of the author, a postal address for hard mail, the title of the paper, a 500 word abstract and a 100 word biographical statement that includes full bibliographic references of your last or forthcoming publication, if applicable (graduate students can indicate the title of their dissertation and year of projected defense)
PANEL PROPOSALS must include the title of the panel; a chair, three
paper-givers, and a discussant; and the name, affiliation, postal address and 100 word biographical statement of each participant (same specifications as above).

3. Scholarship Title: William T. Grant Foundation Seeking Mid-Career Policymakers and Practitioners for Fellows Program

Region: North America

Type of Scholorship: Ph.D.

Required Education: Bachelors

Description:
In August 2005, the William T. Grant Foundation
launched a Request for Proposals to pilot test its
Distinguished Fellows Program for mid-career
influential researchers, policymakers, and
practitioners. The goal of the Distinguished Fellows Program is to
increase the supply of, demand for, and use of
high-quality research in the service of improved youth
outcomes.

To accomplish this, we are pilot testing a fellowship
program so that mid-career practitioners/policymakers
can spend extended time working in a research setting
or researchers can spend extended time working in a
practitioner/policymaking setting. In the second year
of the pilot, we will be accepting applications from
policymakers and practitioners only.

To test this idea and improve the design of the
fellowship program, the Foundation plans to grant two
to four awards every year for the next few years as a pilot test. If the results of the pilot test are promising, we plan to make the fellowship program part of our ongoing grantmaking.
The deadline for receipt of Letters of Inquiry is
November 3, 2005.

Uzbekhonum, it depends on where you wanna do your masters.
Im not sure how the things are in Europe, but right now in US, if you are majoring in International Relations or sth related to Central Asian Poltics, you have a good shot at top schools with different kinds of financial aid given the special circumstances. There are so many call for papers and scholarships availabale at those universities. All you need to do is go to their website and do some research on scholarships/fellowships. I know it takes some time, but this is the only way you can get it.

Any universities who offer scholarships for those with good scores?
Try these:
Harvard, Columbia, Yale, Princeton, Stanford etc. Any of those would give you a good scholarship IF your essays and scores are good. PLUS if you make it to any of top ten schools banks will offer you financial aid (student loans) without requiring a coborrower. Go for it :)! If you've got what it takes these guys are happy to take you onboard!

Guest to this world.

I doubt that top schools will give you scholarship just because you have high scores and good writing skills. In fact, Stanford, last year, denied about 20 applicants because they had 1600 on SAT I or 36 on ACT. Isn't it ironic? Nowadays, it is easy to polish your essay with different online services. Harvard graduated (or any other Ivy graduates) editors will make your essay look like they've been written by Ernest Hemingway. It is easy to say try these colleges: Yale, Brown, Harvard... Yet, I agree that one has to set his goals high, but if you read her posts carefully you will understand that she does not have something outstanding to be accepted by top schools. They usually accept those who won national 'olympiads', made projects, or wrote articles in well known magazines and neswpapers. I have doubts that any college/university, even Ivy League schools, will provide you scholarships to go to law-school, med-school and, biz-school.

My suggestions to the lady who asked the question would be: Google if Princeton Review has a guide to law schools [or a guide to Fin Aid to Law Schools; something like that]. If they do have one, you should try get it.
Or, ask the people who've been accepted by American law schools [int. students..].

Is there anyone who goes to law school in US?

Help her, please.

I am sure you will find a decent grad school which will help you, financially, to continue your education in a law school.

going to a law school is a good investment of money with a high rate of return.

not everybody gets accepted to Harvard Law School, but if you are lucky one, here what u get:

tuition : $ 35,100
living expenses: $21,600

total : $56,700 annually

let's say u go to law school for 3 years, so total amount you owe at the end is around $170,000 . plus u pay interest, it may come up to $200,000 or above.

what u get after u graduate?

starting salary of $ 125,000 a year. it may take u few years to pay back your debt, and after that u work only for yourself for the rest of your life and keep all the money u make.

Loan repayment statistics show that graduates working in private sector jobs (where the average starting salary for Harvard Law School graduates is $125,000) are comfortably able to repay even a significant education debt, and that the percentage of income devoted to loan repayment declines over time as annual income increases

Well, to be honest...when you see some Uzbeks struggle in the stage you passed...I should say(provide info), argue (at least from personal experience/life) and prove (how I got in Columbia) a few hopefully useful facts. :D

FYI (Please accept it as it is, with pure intention to share and hereinafter to assist (somehow) you in the process to get into top (possibly good) school):

From: Qashqdaryo region, Uzbekistan. No financial backbone from whatsoever. :D
Current school: Columbia University: Master's degree
Current work: 1. Admissions Office (consulting incomming students, application process, conducting Info Sessions for applicants)
2. JP Morgan, project, (possibly non-relevant)
Scholarship/Assistanship: Yes, PA/TA fellowship from the school
How do I finance: Fellowship/Assistanship and Loan.
Who are they top school students: (at least from my experience): High calibre students, very diversed (not geographically but academic/professional) backgrounds and highly driven/motivated in what they are interested in.
How I got in: I agree, awards, articles, books and other accomplishments and Importantly - Extracuricular activities would increase the chances. Have: more 15 articles(local/national/inter'l), 2 books co-authored, several high awards (local/national/international), and personal achievements (let's say top 10 player in the US or anywhere or President of European Students Association/Team Captain/Coach in Univ).

Well, long story to write it, but may share some other time. ;) After many failures at last stages from UMID and ACCELS and others I applied to US top 60 universities. Finally and gladly rejected UMID (few days before the departure) and went on my own "tiring and non-easy" and long "story".

I do disagree with previous posts: YES, you can get Scholarships (and in forms of Assistanship/Fellowship) in top schools too (Ivy too). People are doing it and you can do it, too. Be aggressivly driven by what you want and believe!
Can you get loan without co-signer? YES, you can. Toper school you get more chances to get loans for international students. Details exist, indeed.

There is no specific admission framework to anywhere. You are in the "box" or out of the "box" - doesn't matter! That's what I say to all the incomming students. Of course, people with strong and excellent profiles in variety of contexts.

About the PRICE (tuition): Indeed, top schools cost much. Do cost and benefit analysis: Economics 101. At least, I follow the rule: you get what you pay for. Why? because top schools attract best faculty and students from around the world. You talk straigt to Nobel Laureate in Economics Stiglitz or Mundell and argue with him anytime or having a class with ex-President of Ireland on human rights and development policy. I am not saying that non-top school people are not smart and no chances. Absolutely NO! As simply as it gets to you, If you go to best school you will get indeed the exposure to the best/brightest/most possibility from THE SOURCE. Branding plays its own role as well. At least they (recruiters) would know that, hearing Harvard, Yale etc they are receiving top noch "product". FYI: I rejected full tuition waiver (Named schoolarship directly from school) and free room and board from top ranked school and came to Columbia (NYC, close to opportunites) where I have taken more risk/burden: big Loan. Why? Because it is Columbia(i mean the program and faculty and challenge) and it is New York! These two factors. Be aware, there is always trade off, what you want and what is available.
Advice: our students (w/ Soviet mentality) have greater potential/skills(not trying to generalize but propostionately summing), BUT they score very low in strategy and tactics. So, f**k (I mean put aside) ;) your personality and mentality and research the school, program, degree and requirements from peers, publications, and forums (possibly) and input more time and work in admission process. More quality time/effort you put in, more sharper you get to know with delicate top schools procedures. Do it nicely and thoughfully. FYI: I did more than 7 month pure-research on schools/programs before even I started the application process to grad. schools (which is another 8-7 months).

Please pardon my long message. Truely indeed, the purpose was to share my experience (in brief) ;) , which I hope would help somehow and give you more personal and student insight and advice. We belong to Great Uzbek nation and herein we civicly obligated to help each other in some ways we can.

If you have further questions, please let me know anytime. At least, I can refer you to the right cotacts. :)

IELTS or TOFELS are definitely important for scholarship!!!
if you wanna go to America ,most of US colleges don't give shit about IELTS ,you have to take TOFEL ,plus GRE !! and if your TOFEL scores are higher than 560 or GRE higher than 2100 ,you may probably get it !!!
no matter if you wanna apply for scholarship or not ,LAW schools of the states will require your TOFEL AND GRE scores !!
well, if you wanna go to Eaurope ,TOFEL is enough!!!
IELTS is required by British colleges or AUStralia or newzeland !!!!;)
