It's clear that the office of BBC in Tashkent was closed up because of the harrasment and intimidation from IAK after the Andijani events. But why BBC had stopped its activity in Europe, is a biiiig question for me. As far as I know BBC is no more operating in Moscow. Which country is the next, I wonder? Kazakhstan or revolutionary Kyrgyzstan?

Very simple. Europe is democratic. they have their own open and free media and there is no need for BBC. The priority now is Iraq and I think soon it will be Iran. So they are throwing their funds at their programming in Arabic and perhaps in Persian very soon.

I never heard that BBC not operating in Moscow?! Are you sure because few years ago BBC Radio and BBC Televsion News open one big office in Moscow,Quenn Elizabeth II came for opening ceremony. And i listen Russian service of BBC Radio almost everyday. They have big studio in Moscow ( i guess its located in same new office). BBC may trasfer from Tashkent to Almaty Kazahstan. I really respect BBC and it is too bad that uzbek authorites force them leave the country. Vsegda zhalyutsa chto SMI v Evrope kritikuyut Uzbekistan i zayavlayut chto oni malo znayut pro Uzbekistan, a sami tak vygonayut vseh zhurnalistov iz strany. I was happy when BBC open its main office in Central Asia in Tashkent.

It's my understanding that they were stopping "world services", meaning radio services that aimed at advancement of democracy, human rights and freedom of speech. Their arguments to stop these brodcasting services in Europe were that most of European contries are now democratic. Which is why they were expanding their MidEast services.

I am sorry, but I think saying "BBC left Eastern Europe because Eastern Europe is now democratic" is just naive. I would say BBC (and the British government) now are not as interested in Eastern Europe as they used to be.
I agree with you that The Middle East is becoming more important, but not because it is in dire need of democracy, but because Britain has more at stake there.

Tell that to Nigel Chapman.
