I'm trying to budget for my 2-week trip to Tashkent. I need to get an idea of how much money I need to bring. Firstly, I understand that I will need to bring US dollars - is this correct?

Secondly, my apartment will work out at around $400 for the 2 weeks. So, will $1600 be enough for two people for the two weeks ($2000 in total for the entire stay)? This will need to cover everything: travel (sightseeing) and food.

I also heard somewhere that the dollars need to be new and unfolded. Is this true?

 Tashkent is cheap man,u don't need that much money,of course u can take 2000$,but it's more than enough.Oh,hang on......if it includes travel expenses as well,it depends where u're flying from and which aviacompany.
But,I'm sure you can live for a month in a nice apartment for 400$,not 2 weeks.Hotels are expensive,GrandOrzu for example, 40$ a night.
but apartment should be about 150$ for 2 weeks, nice one.
yes.u need $ and they won't change it at certain places if it's not new enough. However, there is place in Tashkent, Gambol, where u can change any old money to any currency.

Thanks for the replies. I have already paid for my flight so the $2000 is for the apartment and living costs only. But it is for two people. My local Uzbekistan Embassy official in London recommended Samarkand as a very beautiful place to visit during my holiday.

Crumbs;
Could you tell me how did you arrange accomodation.. Ir sounds 400 $ for 2 weeks is better than hotels. I will be visiting Tashkent also, will be alone. I am trying to get a visa, so when will my visit be still not certain yet. I am from Turkey and we are on black list of Uzbekistan so it is pretty hard to get a visa.
Thanks in advance..

I think he meant "Turkish Citizens are having problem to have visa".

Well,I think he should try getting visa from Greece,UK or USA;without a travel agency. Then he will understand the difference.

From a country to another,if you wanna travel via a travel agency or invitation from your family, you are valid, otherwise,if you wanna go with an invitation of a friend, you should wait,It is so at every country.

Turkey is not in blacklist.
Uzbekistan and Turkey made an agreement about the visas.

This is exactly Turkey request from the Uzbekistan "to don't give the visa easy" to the Turkish citizens who holds Blue Passport.

Before, young Turks were escaping from army and migrating to the Mid.Asian countries such as Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and so on...
Yet again, when the PKK terrorism treating, some of the militants were escaping to the Uzbekistan and so on...

It is the policy...

Of course government workers, students and all others can get the visa easy, somes don't need to get visa even to the USA. e.g. my Daddy has green passport and could go even to USA without any visa.

Sure, I just did a search on Google for "apartments in Tashkent". Several hits came back and I visited some of the Web sites. One in particular I liked and I e-mailed the owner. After a few e-mails I made the booking. It is much cheaper than hotels and, as I come from the UK, a rate of $30 per night is extremely cheap for an apartment with a kitchen, bathroom, living room, one bedroom and a study. If I was staying for one month then I would only be charged $350-$400.

Many hotels in the UK, particularly in London, cost more than $300 for one night!
