Paper accuses foreign radio of "ideological attack" on Uzbekistan
On 26 October the once outspoken Uzbek newspaper Hurriyat criticized Voice of America and Radio Liberty for an "ideological attack" on Uzbekistan and urged measures against such radio stations.
Commenting on the resumption of "the Voice of America radio station's broadcast to Uzbekistan", the author, certain Tojiddin Razzoq, said: "An ideological attack is also a type of aggression. A thousand-year-long history bears witness to the fact that this method of fighting has always been used. I wonder when I think of this: What are we waiting for? Why do we not adequately respond to foreign radio stations that are making every effort to destabilize the situation in the country and create an atmosphere of hostility to the constitutional order?" the report said.
The report went on to say that Radio Liberty was "making fuss over nothing".
"Radio Liberty does not care about successes in life but makes fuss over nothing reporting: "security services have arrested a certain human rights activist crossing the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border illegally'.
"Does the USA award a prize to a rights activist who crosses its state border illegally?! Are not there laws for rights activists?! This makes one wonder - how they dare to report this way... [ellipsis as published]."
(Report ran to about 1,500 words; no further processing planned)
