It is not a secret that we students do bribe faculty members to receive a proper grade. Most of us say we do that because everybody does that and there is no way you can pass without brybing smb. However I would like to know different statements regarding the issue and if anybody is going to school in Uzb., tell me whether situations has changed compared to couple of years ago? If yes then how?
Thanks
Cheers

Ohh, he is talking about Uzbek colleges and universities where the salary of faculty members is so low [~30-60$/month] that they take bribes from students. I am not trying to justify them, but it is important to understand why they doing that. There is two main reasons: 1) low salaries [as mentioned above] 2) way of thinking of Uzbek teachers/professors: i.e. if professor X took a bribe from student, why shouldn't I [professor Z] take one, too. There is an interesting fact about Uzbek universities, that I noticed while studying in one of them. People can agree or disagree with me, but in "high ranked" universities, in Uzbekistan, professors are less eager for taking bribes than those in "low ranked" universities. In selective universities, in Uzbekistan, faculty members have higher salaries, and usually many of them by participating in different programs sponsored by foundations, such as Boner, Soros, get stipends and scholarships and go abroad. But in "low ranked" universities, professors, usually, leave no choice for students other than giving bribes.
Once again, all I said might not be true for all universities. But I posted my point of view on this problem. I posted information based on my expirience.

In addition to stated above, majority of students of low-ranked institutions tend to be, IMHO, less intelligent (academically) than those who are in top/high-ranked ones. And most of them would bribe on their own to avoid "unnesesary"-"painstaking" knowledge enhancing process. Thus, miserable salary of teachers+students attitude(gimme diploma, not knowledge) just leave no other choice. But, I wanted to make an accent on students, because this problem will exist forever unless students will do some efforts to change the situation. Not only by stopping bribe, but also by changing their dumb mentality. But... what am writing about? Bribing was, is and will be driving force of the Uzbekistan's Prosperity.
