President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Klaus Mangold, chairman of Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations and executive advisor of DaimlerChrysler on Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia, at the presidential residence Oqsaroy on 22 November.
Welcoming the guest, President Karimov said: "We welcome you not only as the chairman of the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations, but also as person who contributed to development of the Uzbek-German relations. The role of the committee is also great in strengthening economic relations."
The German delegation led by Mr Mongold is visiting Uzbekistan. It is expected that the delegation will discuss issues on development of cooperation between states in agriculture machiner, industrial infrastructure, oil and gas, ICT, construction material, etc.
In his turn, Mongold expressed gratitude to President Islam Karimov for warm receipt and said that the Uzbek-German cooperation in trade-economic and investment sphere has great potential.
The sides exchanged opinion in further development and stimulation of business circles of Uzbekistan and Germany.
Germany is one of the largest trade partners of Uzbekistan. Trade turnover between states made up US$320.3 million in 2004 and US$239.6 million in nine months of 2005.
The Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations was founded in 1952. It is a joint organisation of the leading associations representing Germany business. It is supported by the Federation of German Industries (BDI), the Association of German Industry and Commerce (DIHK), the Association of German Banks (BdB), the Federal Association of German Wholesalers and Exporters (BGA) and others. The Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations unites companies with interests in Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, South-East Europe, the Baltic States, the Caucasian Republics and Central Asia.
