Check this out. Somewhere I have read that you dont have to have special lawer to start the process. Try the initial test and if you score more than 67 points you will be eligible for getting the residency. you have to fill out the application and send it (all the required info is in there) also you have to pay 550$ (this is non-refundable) and if you pass the first part of the application you have to pay another 1000$ to get the residancy. Hmm, also have to show that you have 10,000$ before you enter Canada. Hope it helps.

My best advice, don't go with lawyer. Extra cost, I wouldn't call them lawyers, they are more like OVIR clerks filling out forms. You can do everything yourself. Lawyers can't intervene in the decision process nor immigration officers care about whether you come with one.
