Hi everybody,

It is really interesting to know how many of us studying natural sciences(physics, chemistry, biology) in abroad. If any of you knows someone who majors in that field, please let us know.
As far as I know many of my friends that study abroad, major ,mostly, economics, language studies, social studies etc...... .

Or If you have other ideas related to this topic feel free to share them.

My major is biology (Master's).

Sorry, but what exactly that mean?

NanOnaN

It means studying properties, functions and applications of materials.
As it is multidisiplinary field, my narrow specialization is studying nanoelectronic materials.

hey Sharof,
what's the concentration of your major? biotech, bioinformatics...?
I was doing Bio, but had to stop it due to some circumstances. Planning to continue after majoring in nursing.

How about we create a anonymous poll that reflects forum users majors.

Like Chemistry, biology, public health, medicine, dentistry, accounting(which I am doing a BS in), Economics, Business Management.

Molecular biology is really broad than it can seen for the first. You can study human, mammals, other animals, plants, fungi, microorganisms, to be brief, all living "things". This field is the main part of biotechnology (cloning, genetically modified organisms, different drugs etc..). Actually, the reason why I choosed biology as a major is my interest in molecular biology, biotechnology.

I would say, classical biology, zoology, botany etc. But not in biochemical and molecular level. It is really sad to comment but it is impossible to practice in cloning (simple methods in abroad ,where it is done by bachelor students) in Uzbekistan Universities (I don't know exactly, if it is possibly in different scientific research institions). And in universities there are just a few professors that can really teach you basics of mol.biol. or biotechnology. Thats why many of our students majoring in biology don't have real knowledge in this field(90%). But it depends on student, of course....... .

true, most of the Bio students don't know anything about their major. the way Bio is taught for Bio majors is also not interesting. not applied to what's going on around.
u planning to begin Biotech in Uz?

The main problem that students can't see(teachers cant burn in them interest) the perspective after graduating the bio major. They think that they will be just teachers after finishing.
We will see.

The first aim is to get good knowledge, then time will show.

I think main reasons why there are not so many students studying natural science abroad could be that 1) Students at medical institutions do not learn foreign languages or they are not stressed out enough on their curricula. 2) Very low attention to natural sciences by our educational system. 3) everything and everybody is corrupted. etc.

I think most of the guys do not realize how important these majors are abroad. Anybody doing engineering?:)

No, Im not science major, not even close, but I was interested in math program of my school. Truly speaking, I wish I could have started my study here earlier and majored in math. Unfortunately, it's too late for me to major in math because I have already more than 100 hours n' I do not wanna spend whole my life in school.:) However, I was planing to take one math class next semester to see if I can survive and have been studying Multivariable Mathematics(vector algebra, calculus on n-dimensional space, a bit of topology and manifolds:D ) over the break. It's pain in ass, don't ever take it. I might more likely to give up.

Totally agree
2) Very low attention to natural sciences by our educational system. 3) everything and everybody is corrupted. etc.
other reasons are why there are not so many students in natural sciences (example for biological sciences) are following:
1- The most well prepared applicants apply to medical studies while those who are not confident wheather they can able to take enough points or failed to enter to medical institute once apply to biological and chemical studies (80-85% of students that study biology at least once tried to enter medical institute). So most talanted students are usually taken by medical institute.
2- They don't see perspective (or just dont want to see) after finishing so they don't study enough.

I think, mostly it depends on student (person), if he wants to study there are a plenty of chances(in natural sciences). Just what he needs is will to do this.

On topic: Computer studies in Korea: PhD and Master's (two guys)
