well, Bukhara and Samarqand are very anchient and beautiful cities, also, most of the girls are very lovely in Samarqand and Bukhara, as matter of fact I know a quite a few of them ;)
Enjoy your trip!
Firs of all I would recommend you tell him about other cities of uzb e.g.. Samarqand , Khiva. Because they are also beautiful cities and worth visiting. As I had a chance being in Bukhara I would like to share my experience with you and it will be on topic as well.
1)info and pics: You will find them from internet example : www.bukhara.uz (http://www.bukhara.uz), there are some other english sourced sites too.
2) City: The city is not so big. Most famous historical places are at the city centre- called old city and are located side by side verry big
advantage You will be in the old city like being in a big, open museum.
3) place to stay :
a) several traditional houses are made as a private
motels
b) intercontinental (or smth like that) hotel- not affordable for local people. I do not think that the price will be a problem for your friend.
I personally recommend choice a) because of the atmosphere- If he wants to visit historical city why would he need modern places...
4) food and drink :
foods are good. I would say, you might get proud of them too. Especially gijduvon taomlari. ( by the way they have strange osh ). Water is terrible (sorry people of bukhara) it is very saulty, impossible to drink for the people who did not get used to it.
5) People: Very friendly, keen on talking to tourists, asking them questions...
6) Transport: taxi
I hope this will be some help.
luck,
Sorry, I thougt that you are Uzbek and inviting your friend to bukhara...
as you are going to work there I would like to add something to my above post.
Business view:
1) The city is not expensive (transportation, communication, accomondation costs, salary and wages)
2) Temperature is very hot in summer. Dry cold and windy in winter
3) Communication: good phone service. Internet: I have no idea about DSL connection there but modem 56 kb/s is widely used.
Call a travel agent in bukhara let him manage the things before you go. It will not cost you much and it will save your time.
Wish you luck
Ps: what kind of business are you planning to do, if I'm allowed to ask?
