Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan agree gas price for 2006

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan agreed price for gas supplies in 2006 during negotiations in Tashkent. The Kazakh side agreed to purchase 1.6 billion cubic meters of gas at the price of $55 per 1,000 cubic meters. President of KazMunayGaz national company Uzakbay Karabalin held negotiations with the Uzbek Prime Minister Utkir Sultonov, chairman of Uzbekneftegaz Abdusalom Azizov and his deputy Shavkat Majidov, as well as director-general of Uztransgaz Erkin Vagipov on gas supplies to southern regions of Kazakhstan in 2006. On the results of the talks, Uztransgaz and Kaztransgaz, subsidiary of KazMunayGaz, signed agreement on gas supplies for 2006. It should be noted that Uzbekistan raised the gas price from $42 to $55 to Tajikistan and Kyrgyz Republic.
The sides also achieved agreement on increase of gas supply to southern regions of Kazakhstan in if required.

Government introduces excise duty for liquefied gas production

The government of Uzbekistan introduces excise duty for production of liquefied gas starting from January 1, 2006, a resolution of Cabinet of Minister said. The Cabinet of Ministers adopted resolution "On forecasts of main macroeconomic figures and parameters of the State Budget of Uzbekistan for 2006" dated 27 December”. The document approved forecasts of main macroeconomic figures and parameters of the State Budget of Uzbekistan for 2006, as well as tax rates. The excise duty set at 21% and calculated to the price of goods in being sold. The duty will not be imposed to liquefied gas, realized to population via Uzkommunservis. Currently, seven enterprises of Uzbekistan produce liquefied gas in Uzbekistan. Main part of volume (85%) fell to share of Shortan Gas chemical Complex, Shurtanneftegaz, Mubarekneftegaz and Mubarek Gas Processing Plant.

Gazprom, Uzbekistan agree gas, transit prices

TASHKENT. Jan 21 (RossBusinessConsulting Daily) - Russian gas giant Gazprom and Uzbekistan signed agreement on prices for Uzbek gas and transit for 2006, a press service of Russian company said. The statement of Gazprom did not disclose the sum of the deal. But Russia's RossBusinessConsulting reported quoting source close to deal that the sides agreed to US$60 per 1,000 cubic metres of gas. The transit price set US$1.1 per 1,000 cubic metres of gas for every 100 kilometres. RIA Novosti also confirmed the price for Uzbek gas. Gazprom said it would buy 9 billion cubic meters of Uzbek gas in 2006 against 8 billion cubic meters in 2005 and 5 billion cubic meters in the previous years.

Gazprom's chairman Alexei Miller paid a visit to Uzbekistan on Friday, 20 January. The statement of Gazprom said that Miller met the Uzbek President Islam Karimov, Deputy Prime Minister Utkir Sultanov and chairman of Uzbekneftegaz Abdusalom Azizov. The sides considered development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia in energy sector. The sides discussed implementation of projects on development of new gas fields on the Ustyurt plateau in Karakalpakstan and modernisation of the Central Asia – Centre gas pipeline. Currently, Uzbekistan produces around 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year, of which 5 billion cubic meters exported to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan.
