Assalomu alaykum,
Has anyone had any experience in obtaining F-2 visa for their spouse in Uzbekistan? Can you tell me what documents are needed and maybe suggest few tips that will make the process easier? And lastly, how long does the process take once you have scheduled an appointment at U.S. Consulate?
Thank you all,

Assalomu Alaykum, hurmatli -JUST-,

A friend of mine studies in Nebraska and today I went to NYC to meet his wife & kids, as they came to the U.S. bearing F-2 visa (don't know about kids, but her for sure). The whole process took about 3 months, as he sent her an invitation and she applied for visa once he'd received it. After all verifications & other check-ups she's got it and finally she is here :)
Good luck

Salom aleykum.
The question I got is a little offtop: has anyone here changed their F-1 visa to F-2? If so, can you plz share your experience about the whole process? How long does it take? Will getting temporarily out of status while the process is pending affect anything?
Any information regarding F1 --> F2 will be greatly appreciated.
Than Q all in advance.

shouldn't take long, about a month or so.Depending which DO you send your application in.You should send your application 45 days before your F1 status expires. While your case is being reviewed, you are considered as legal. The moment you get your notice from BCIS,your new status will be in effect.
There is bunch of information, forms and instructions on how to fill out the application at www.uscis.gov
It's fairly painless process and you should have no problems with changing your status to F2,as long as you have all your dox in order.

3 months? that's a really long time, I hope it won't take as long if I have all the docs prepared ahead of time. I guess there aren't many people who've experienced it. Thanks anyways.

it doesn't take 3 months.Mere week,if less.If you have the I-20 form for your spouse, all she has to do is to schedule a visa interview. It takes one day to get the form issued. You don't have to pay SEVIS fee for dependents. So it will be easy.If you are in uzbekistan,it's best if you go together.
good luck

Other than I-20, are there any other necessary documents? I read somewhere on the NET that they require wedding pictures? is that true?

Not necessarily, but if they want the pictures and if you have them. Why don't you show them? The best thing to do is to go to the appointment together. If you show up there and tell them you want to bring your spouse as your dependent, you will have no problems whatsoever. It might be a little hard if you don't go there. Some people make fake marriages and try to get a visa and consulate tries to prevent those people from getting a visa.So it's in your best interests to provide as many supporting documents as possible.

If u apply for a F-1 student visa and you're sure that u have all appropriate papers & docs done and you get the visa, your spouse and children are eligible to apply for F-2 visas.

Your dependents shall submit:

1. Completed Form I-20A-B, Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status, that is used by the F-1 prospective applicant http://faq.visapro.com/Images/new_transparent.gif
2. Filled in Form DS-156, Nonimmigrant Visa Application http://faq.visapro.com/Images/new_transparent.gif
3. One recent photograph (37 x 37mm) of each applicant, with the entire face visible. The picture should be taken before a light background and without head covering http://faq.visapro.com/Images/new_transparent.gif
4. A passport, valid for travel to the U.S. for at least six months longer than your intended visit http://faq.visapro.com/Images/new_transparent.gif
5. Copy of you marriage certificate in case you are a dependent spouse http://faq.visapro.com/Images/new_transparent.gif
6. Copy of birth certificate if you are a dependant child below 21 years of age http://faq.visapro.com/Images/new_transparent.gif
7. Marriage photographs or wedding invitations http://faq.visapro.com/Images/new_transparent.gif
8. Evidence of sufficient funds for your support http://faq.visapro.com/Images/new_transparent.gif
9. Evidence that you will depart when the student's education is completed

Note: If your dependents are joining you later, you will need to submit Form I-20 A-B, endorsed from the school that the F-1 student is attending.

The processing time for F-2 is generally one business day. The visa issued on the same day the application is made. F-1 and F-2 are admitted for 'duration of stay'. As long as the principal F-1 maintains status as a student the F-2 is not required to seek extension of stay. Also your spouse may apply for change of status while on F-2 visa. There are no travel restrictions on F-2 visa. Your dependents may travel as many times as possible, provided you maintain valid F status.

Hope that will be helpful :)
