ATAA MEETS WITH MEMBERS OF THE GLOBAL UZBEK COUNCIL
Washington, DC (August 2, 2005) – On Monday, August 1, ATAA Executive Director Nargiz Abbaszade, Assistant Director of Media Relations Allison Block, and Board of Trustees Member Cemal Altayli met with four founding members of the recently established Global Uzbek Council.
Mr. Altayli began the meeting with a brief history of Uzbeks and Uzbekistan and the historic, cultural and linguistic ties that Uzbekistan shares with Turkey. Ms. Abbaszade followed with an explanation of ATAA, the ATAA mission and the daily work that is carried out in the office. Next, the members were given an opportunity share the history of the Global Uzbek Council and what they hope to achive through such an organization. Prior to the organization of the Council, people from Uzbekistan living in the United States did not have a single organization to connect them. The Global Uzbek Council hopes to provide that platfrom from which Uzbeks can speak with a unified voice in the United States, as well as from their offices abroad. ATAA representatives agreed with the members of the Global Uzbek Council that we share a similar vision for the two organizations and that there are platforms on which ATAA and the Global Uzbek Council could cooperate. The first step in cooperation is the current application for membership in ATAA by the Council.
ATAA looks forward to accepting a new member to its list of component associations and working with the Global Uzbek Council to achieve our common goals.
