Pursuasive Speech Topic

Dear Forum users,

I have to give a pursuasive speech next week. I noticed that some of you also did or going to give pursuasive speeches. I have been thinking what to talk about and can't figure out which topic to choose. I already did my informative speech but pursuasive speech turned out more difficult. One of the requirements is that it should not be about too contoversial issue like abortion. The following topics has already been presented:
1. Global Warming
2. Against Smoking
3. How to Achive Gender Equality.

Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

I did legalizing drugs for my persuasive speech in class. My speech must not have been very good because I got extra points because they assumed I was taking the topic even though they thought I was against it.

Mine was terrorism and Islam:)

the third option u listed is not possible:) not even worth talking:lol:

you could choose smth like what we already have here in forum. Media effects on american youth i.e. whats good and whats bad to watch for children and in general (A guy said it is sickening Amrican people) u can check the thread out.
Or about gender roles in US. i wrote a paper about females becoming pleasure instruments or close to that. i dont know may be these r to extreme but i choose always smth like these:)

The topics I listed were presented by others, so I have to choose other topics.
1.Terrorism and Islam - very difficult topic;
2. Media effects on American youth - sounds good, though I need to search if relevant materials are available on the Internet;
3. The third one seems very controvertial.

You know what guys, I also have to moderate a group discussion soon (on November 16). I included "legalizing drugs" and "media effects on youth" for a list of my possible discussion topics as well. Keep suggesting.:)

I think before you select your topic make sure you analyze your audience... for example analyze their age, gender and even a religion, group etc... for example hypotheticly you don't wanna talk about modern fashion or music to bunch of old people... the same with smoking topic, before choosing this topic check your audience and make sure that majority of them are smokers, because if you talk about against smoking topic to bunch of nonsmokers it won't make sense, because they already know that smoking is bad and against smoking... the first question your audience asks is "what kind of benefit will I get from this speech?!" so make sure that your topic fits well with your audience needs...

when I did my persuasive speech I send out a survey question in my class and that way I was able to get to know my audience... my topic was benefits of recycling garbage and printer cartridges, which will prevent land, air and water polutions, reduces greenhouse gasses which causes the global warming, reducing the the number of landfills... also explained to my audience about recycling printer cartridges and donating them will contribute toward finding a cure for brest cancer... you can go on and on about this topic...

And what to do if the audience asked you to pick particular topic?
(for example, I have to give persuasive speech on "Islam-truth against media beliefs",and my class has asked me to give it...)

then go for it and do your best:), but if it is gonna be about Islam make sure to make a deep research and gather enough information... I know you must have some knowledge about Islam, but the best will be to talk to Islamic Scholar or Sheikh at your local Masjid if you have one near by after you decide what you are going to say about Islam because they have a better knowledge than us... If you are making your presentation in US or any western country, I assume that majority of your audience will be non Muslims so it will be a great opportunity for you to talk about the beauty of Islam and try to spread the basic ideas about our peaceful faith... Inshallah, you will get your reward in this world (grade A+) and hearafter for conveying a massage about your religion during your presentation:)...

also one more thing, need to make sure and be careful about your word choices to not insult other believes, religions without even knowing it:) (sometimes we may do it without even realizing it)...
