Jiddiymisiz, yoki bu xazilmi?

Aziz,

As far as I know Soghdiana is a state that existed before its conquest by the Alexander the Great, with its center in Soghd, now Samarqand. I guess "Samarqand" itself eveloved from "Soghd-Markanda". And Uzbeks are very proud of such historical heritage as Soghdiana, though Tajiks always contest that Soghdiana has to do more with them than with Uzbeks.

Also, like Amiri Turkistoni said, Soghdiana is a popular Uzbekstani singer in Russia of Ukrainian origin. I guess she chose this alias to add some oriental flavor to her image. Her song "Serdce bolit" really has some oriental/Uzbek motives and I like it.

Sogdians were an ancient East Iranian tribes, not "Persian speaking" as it was written in the link. Persians are small Iranian tribe residing in current Iran. One more correction, turks did not concur central asia, as a result of climate change, they moved from cold altay to warm and vacant southern lands.
Sogds were not part of persian kingdoms, they have had several unsuccessful attempts to invade central asia but either failed or were kicked out shortly after.
For the sake of fairness, I should note that modern tajiks has more ties with this tribe than turkic uzbeks do.
Modern tajikistan named one of its official administrative regions after this tribe. In modern uzbekistan, though, there is a district called Soh that undoubtedly has direct linkage with Sogdians.

As far as i know, the Sogdian people were ethnic Iranian people, speaking a distinct dialect of Old Persian, they were part of the Sasanid Persian empire till the Arab conquest of Iran in the 7 century, however, the Sogd districts were an autonomous region, recognizing the Sasanid Iranian Shahenshah only nominally. They had their own self governing rulers.Modern Tajiks are beleived to be the direct decendents of Sogds.Districts of predominently Sogdian descendents include Samarqand region and also the historical Ferghana that is now partitioned between Uzbekstan,Tajikstan, etc,Sogdians share an Iranian culture with other ethnic Iranian groups as their celebration of the NORUZ FEAST,their Zoroastrian heritage, etc.MOST modern descendents of Sogd are now Sunni muslems, few are Shiites and still fewer are adhering to the old Zoroastrian faith
