I beleive it was close to the end of 1997. My first email account was @uwed.freenet.uz. And the first email messages received were from @colorado.edu :)

Don't remember websites visited. But I remember vividly how my host family had no idea on how to set up the connection, and I did the whole thing myself. That annoying modem sound was rewarding.

I took mine in the building of Narhoz. It was winter and cold as cold could ever get. We were all packed in a small room with no heating and sat there taking the TOEFL exam for 3 hours without even leaving the room. Bathroom break? Nada.

ACCELS was then located at Dom Pionera, dunno if they still occupied same offices later on.

I used email back in early 90's - during freenet times. My dad had computer set up at his office to retrieve email from freenet server via UUCP. They had correspondence with friends who left Uzbekistan for US and Israel. Most of the specialists from his place left for those countries.

I also remember using old soviet computers: the size of a refrigerator with 10" monochrome screen. They managed to install game Digger on those and I remember playing that game all the time.

My dad used to work at PKB - proektno konstruktorskoe byuro wich was in charge of computerizing soviet industries in Central Asia and Caucasus.

Был такой бесплатный сервис в 1998 году, Мастернет назывался. :D Такой локальный интернет только для ташкентцев наподобии фидонета в общем количестве пользователей где-то около 1500 человек. Чатились, в игрушки по сети играли, свой форум был, разные вопросы по компьютерам обсуждали. Chimuru из "Компьютерры" (если кто помнит/знает) - свой чел был в сетке, помню, показывал нам, как тот или иной элемент исправлять в html-коде. Хорошие были времена... :)

Кто нибудь им пользовался? :)

On: I saw American kids doing someting online at that time, but I hardly call it Internet. They were checking their horoscope and the like. Our computer lab was equipped with huge, green computers which you could use to send an e-mail. Although there was no one to send to:) And e-mail addresses contained only numbers and compuserve extension at the end.

But first time I encountered the real Internet in 1997 in Tashkent. We would access through Sovam Teleport. The first site I accessed was Russia Online.

my first internet exprience was eye-hurting experience with dial-up it was frikin slow as turtle it back in 2000. and of course it was google.com felt horrible to sell info about joint venture companies in china and holland for cheeze makers and auto part makers because they could have gotten that info themselves they just thought that have to go to school to google some info .. it was fun though. we also stayed up nights to read scholarship info on uni's.

I came in internetcafe in C-5 infront of my house. I needed to open an e-mail account to communicate with my cousin in USA.

I felt very stupid :(, as I didn't have a flipping clue, what to do with a piece of paper with my e-mail and password on it... I couldn't get, how it works... embarrassing really :uups:

P.S. I still use that hotmail account :lol:
