Standford,
I hope you will find and learn what you are looking for in France. I have been living over the year in Paris, and i have more or less life experience, especially living in the capital.
For accomadation purpose, i would advise to go to www.fusac.fr or www.craigslist.com
It is impossible to rent an apt. without proper preparation of documentations, the list of documents is complicated and long, i can explain you in detail via pm, if you are interested. I guess in your case, you better look for roomates.
Regarding, some evening job, well depends on your experience, education and knolewdge of french and VERY IMPORTANT connections, and of course where you are willing to work. Sometimes it is easier to find job for students as a stagiere (an intern), a lot of places get subsidence of their taxes from the government by hiring students. You can also look for job in fusac.fr, it is a website oriented for Anglophones living in France.
Well, this is short description of what you asked, if you have more questions, don't hesitate contact me via pm.
Good luck in your endeavours.

I think stan is talking about simple jobs, like being a waiter and etc.

I am not sure someone who has graduated ( i assume) from Stanford University is going to do a service job, even though nothing wrong with that. My guess, he has a potential for smth related to his field or english knowledge.

I will be going there on a "work and learn french" type programm which will provide me with a part-time job in a small french firm along with intensive french course. The firm i will be working for will pay very little money, about 1000 USD a month. So when I said evening jobs for extra cash i meant to work as a SA in small shops for example.I don't mind doing some work to cover my daily expenses.Nothing wrong with it.I need to speak french fluently in order to get a job which will suit me.My plan is to settle in France.I want to live there.
Secret services or special tasks whatever the unit is I will work only for the benefit and prosperity of our motherland.I am very loyal and still love it.Does anyone heard about CIA's plan to recruit uzbek refugees to overthrow current regime??:)

LM: Have this in mind, this is France, there is no shop in Paris, which works after 7:30 pm and all shops are closed on Sundays. Only food stores, e.g., supermarkets work till 10 pm. I don't think you can find a SA position in the evenings like in the states 24/7. By the way, the French system is so chick, they might require an official degree or certificate to work in a store. And I am not exaggerating, I am just telling what I have seen. Plus, You have to be extremely fluent in French (basic, intermediate will not count, i know in US you can get away with that) to find a job outside.

Stanford,
If you have a salary of 1000 USD, it is enough for basic needs.
I don't think that you will be able to find a job in Paris, unless you work illegally. It's very difficult to get a "Work Permission". However, your employer may apply to the work permission on behalf of your name. It's easiest way.
If you want to learn French try to communicate with French people.
I lived in France for couple of years if you have questions I will be glad to answer.
If it is enough then i don't have to bother evening jobs.
