I wanted to discuss the Special Forces around the World....Particularly, their history, function in the society, benefits and harms that might arise from their EXISTENCE...And what makes people to Join the Special Forces...

Special forces, historically, up to 20th century were formed with the sole purpose of defending the monarch (king, queen, shah, emperor etc etc). The most skillful and fearless fighters were enlisted into personal guard of the monarch.


In 20th century, with decline of the importance of monarchs, main goals of Special Forces have switched into performing quick, risky, pointed and highly important tasks.

I think noone is interested in discussing pre-20th century special forces, so I guess the topic will focus in modern days.
