Taliban Urge Muslim Charities, People To Help Afghans

Taliban regime of Afghanistan has urged charitable Muslim people and organizations to extend a helping hand to the Afghans, `so that they are not compelled to remain at the mercy of vested interest organizations'.

According to a report of the Taliban-controlled Radio Kabul, the regime issued a communique about closure of the bakeries by the World Food Programme (WFP).

"The objective of the U.N. agencies ought to be provision of humanitarian aid, but these agencies should comply with the laws in vogue in our country," the communique said.

"However, the concerned U.N. organizations have embarked upon such inappropriate acts which are in contrast with the laws of the Islamic Emirate [Taliban regime], principles of the Afghan Muslim nation and their traditions," it maintained.

According to the communique, the `inappropriate acts' included the uncalled for insistence of the WFP to employ Afghan women despite the fact that the men could do the job.

"As a result, the program was closed. Protection of the honor of the Afghan women is an issue that Taliban cannot allow anyone to interfere in," it said.

Therefore, the communique said, Taliban call upon the well-to-do and charitable people and welfare agencies of the Islamic world to extend a helping hand to the Muslim nation of Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the WFP on Friday postponed the closure of 120 bakeries as the Taliban authorities offered to resolve the controversy over employment of Afghan women for survey through negotiations.

WFP Afghanistan Country Director Gerard van Dijk, who is already in Kabul, would hold negotiations with the Taliban officials till Tuesday.

The WFP had given June 15 deadline to the Taliban regime to review the stand on engagement of females in its survey for women beneficiaries of food from its 120 bakeries.

The WFP believes the five-year-old lists are too outdated and do not list the most vulnerable and deserving people in Kabul.

Last year, I had chance to met some talibans and talk with them, and also I met people from Avganistan opposite north side. Both of them dislike. How you can say that they are stupid when you never been there don't know what real happend in Avganistan. This year talibans burned all drug growth of opium so the drug price increased in all world 5 times, isn't this cool. Hundred Taliban Soldiers Defect To join Northern Alliance

A hundred Taliban soldiers led by their four commanding officers have defected to join the Northern Alliance's forces in the Kokhistan district of Afghanistan's province of Farjab near the Turkmenian border, the Azadi Afghan Radio reported from Badakhshan.

Lately, Afghanistan has been witnessing increased resistance to the Kabul regime all over the country. In the western regions the resistance is led by the former governor of the Gerat province, Ismail Khan, who had joined the opposition's United Front in April. In the north-west, the resistance forces are operating under command of Uzbek General Abdul Rashid Dostum who recently returned to the country. Former Governor of the Nangarhar province, Hodji Kadyr, leads the Western zone of resistance, with his forces acting in the Nangarhar, Kunar and Lagman provinces near the border with Pakistan.

The last few days have been marked by the emergence of a totally new trend in Afghanistan's developments after a few Pushtu field commanders went over to the United Front's side. In the province of Hilmend, Pushtu field commander Abdul Rahman Djan led a popular uprising against the Taliban authorities and the fundamentalist regulations the latter are enforcing all over Afghanistan.

Separate hotbeds of resistance are also active in the Northern Valley stretching from Kabul to the Panjsher Gorge, the stronghold of Ahmad Shah Masood, the Commander-in-Chief of the Northern Alliance's forces.

He told Western journalists the other day that the general situation in the country is steadily changing in favour of the anti-Taliban coalition. Masood stressed that there could be no military solution to the internal conflict that has devastated Afghanistan for so many years, no matter how hard the Taliban authorities were trying to achieve it. In his opinion, the warring parties should sit down at the negotiating table and set up a Provisional Government, after which, he said, a general election ought to be held in the country.

neither Talibans nor Northern Alliance are good for Afghani people. Both regimes want the power over the country. If you remember when there was a war between USSR and US supported alliance in Afganistan, the situation was not better than it is now...

It is sad to know that poor Afghan people have become victims of the big policy and no end seem to appear in close future....

I would not be optimistic of the scenario if the Northern Alliance reoccupies Afganistan, not much will change - the feudal war will carry on...
