as I know, you can buy the car in the auction only if you have a license.

Friend of mine works on comission in one of bodyshops in CA state. So he always buys cars from craigslist. if You have a patience to do a search, you'll find a really good deals. As his last purchase for example - Mercedes E320, which had very little scratches. He bought this car for 2500 Dollars. Drives perfectly.

So you need some time, and somebody to give you advice about car purchase itself.
