I just got married and my husband (from Singapore) is working in america under J1 visa. I recently went to the US embassy to apply for my J2. They said they want additional evidence to show that our relationship is genuine.

Anyone here got similar experience?

Vera

Is he a Singapore citizen?
How long he is in USA?
Where was your marriage registered?
How long did you know each other prior to marriage?
Are you in Uzbekistan currently?

As soon as u reply I will let u know what docs or evidences u should submit to US Consulate.

Yes, he is Singapore Citizen.

His current J1 visa expires in end of 2007. But he plan to extend it for several years as he plans to work in US.

We registered in Tashkent our marriage.

We knew each other for a year prior to marriage.

I am in Uzbekistan now...

Please advice. Thank you.

Okey,
Now answer the following:
Do you have any evidence (tour ticket for u both, confirmation of his vizit to you, etc.) that you met with ur husband and spent some time together before marriage?
Do you have any pics (photos) taken with ur husband prior to ur marriage?
Do you have any money order from him (his or ur money order/ receipt, check, etc.)?
Do you have any mail (letter, postcard, present enclosed in mail with his and ur post adresses etc.) received from him?
Do you have any emails, sms from him of intimate character (that he likes or loves u, ur body, ur body is slim and sexy to him, etc.) as well as of you missing each other badly before and after marriage? You should understand what I mean cause it's very important.
Do you have your wedding album with pics? Do you (ur parents) still keep any receipts/bills covering wedding house expenses?
If ur wedding was shot by camera do you have the VHS cassette or DVD of the wedding?
Do you have any evidence of ur honeymoon trip (if applicable)?
Does he know ur family/friend or do you know his parents/friends, etc.
And of course you should have ur official Marriage Certificate issued by the Citizen Registry Office of your district.

Don't be 'lazy' and answer all questions and we will resume what docs and evidence you will submit to the Consulate. OK?!:)

You should understand what I mean cause it's very important. He can supply telephone bills on his side. Showing that he call me on daily basis. Is this enogh?

Do you have your wedding album with pics? Do you (ur parents) still keep any receipts/bills covering wedding house expenses? We only registered. Not yet have ceremony. Will this be a problem.

Вы подавали доки для визы J2 в Консульство и вас попросили принести дополнительные доказательства или Вы просто проконсультировались с сотрудником посольства?

Vera, did you live after ur marriage in Singapour?
Do you have any type of residency in Singapour?
or Does ur husband live in Uzbekistan for a while after he left for the USA.?
Have you registered your marriage at the Singapour consulate in Uzbekistan or in Singapour?
I don't think with just an Uzbek marriage certificate you can prove much.

If I were you, I would apply together w/ur spouse at the US embassy in Singapour.
It seems like he married and left for the usa, you have to show some real evidence of your marraige authenticity.

To be honest - no. I'm not a lawyer and do not work for US Embassy.
I am interested in immigration and travelling issues and when you are aware of all live news and events for several years concerning these issues you will have some experience on the matter.

If you did not file your apllication for J-2 to the Consulate, then what you have to do is:

Find out what are the specific times and days the American Embassy accepts J-2 visa applications.

Find all your evidences (anwers to my questions) and file them properly in separate files (once con. officer asks you to show evidences it will be easy to manage them).
Translate Marriage Certificate with a skilled translator.

Also you will need these docs to file ur application for J-2 visa:

Form DS 2019, SEVIS generated, and approved by the sponsor
Proof that the principal applicant (the person who received the DS-2019 or IAP-66) is maintaining his/her J visa status
Copy of the J-1's (principal applicant's) visa
Proof of relationship to the principal applicant
Proof of sufficient money to cover all expenses in the United StatesI think if you submit all the above-said properly, you will get ur visa.

I would recommend you to read this http://faq.visapro.com/J2-Visa-FAQ.asp

with Googler permision let me add couple lines here:

When You make folder : numerize all the documents, in the way that You feel which is more important or though the questions and on top of all the documents as an first page write index of all the documents with sequence number..this way should be more accurate and just looking to index person can open that page where which documents are.

Always helps when person have more accuracy and that shows respect to those people who will handle those documents.
