Well the US will pay for lots of things as long as Uzbekistan sells out to US corporate interests. They paid for lots of "anti-terrorism" training and equipment already.

The point is that US society has been molded to gather information on everyone. Technology has been very useful for that. Its an open society when one political party wants to win the next election and exposes it. But then they just continue the same practice until the next election comes up.

I have recently been reading a book on the history of contemporary criminology. Among other interesting facts, I was stunned to find out that the overall number of police officers in London in the early 19th century was equal to …. 12 (!) and the reason for such small number of police officers in rather large city – probably the largest in 19th century – was that no one wanted to become a police officer – and this is despite rather high wages (police back then was rather paramilitary and this is why they were not on a regular payroll, but would get wages) for somewhat easy job. And the primary reason for people not wanting to become police officers was because regular people, thus the majority of the population despised, if not to say hated, the police. The reason for such despise (and/or hate) was that Brits believed that the very existence of the police infringed on their liberties… thus, the police was considered far worse job than piracy. So, hate for police is not an invention of 20th century… nor I think this will ever change.
