I have heard that recently the UK has issued new immigration rules. Who has any idea of what changes have they made?

FOR ALL APPLICANTS FOR A UNITED KINGDOM VISA
From Thursday 9th August there will be a major change to the application process:
All visa applicants, irrespective of nationality, will have to apply in person to the Visa Section at the British Embassy, Tashkent and have their fingerscans and digital photograph taken. Admission to the Visa Section will be strictly by appointment only. Applicants are urged not to arrive early for their appointment, as there are no facilities for queuing.
Applicants will be able to seek general immigration information at the VFS Visa Application Centre at Tashkent. There is no charge for this service in addition to the visa fee. Appointments to submit visa applications should also be made by phoning the British Visa Application Centre. Appointments cannot be made by contacting the British Embassy.
Initially there will be a limited number of appointments available. It is hoped that this will be an interim measure until the VFS Visa Application Centre is fully operational. Any changes to procedures will be announced on our website. If you are unable to get an early appointment at the British Embassy in Tashkent, it will be possible for you to lodge an application in Almaty. For further information regarding this please refer to the commercial partner’s website www.vfs-uk-kz.com
The British Government is introducing biometric data collection (fingerscans and digital photographs) as part of a world-wide biometric identification process, designed to protect an individual’s identity, facilitate future entry to the UK, combat visa fraud and abuse of the UK’s immigration and asylum systems.
All visa applicants must have their fingerscans and digital photograph taken, with the exception of:
Holders of Diplomatic passports and accompanying dependants travelling on official government business;
Holders of Official passports who are travelling on official government to government business in the United Kingdom;
United Nations officials holding UN Travel Documents who are travelling on official UN business;
Commonwealth and NATO armed forces personnel posted for service in the UK
Persons applying for a certificate of entitlement confirming right of abode in the United Kingdom;
children under the age of five.
An exception may also be granted to applicants, who for genuine medical reasons cannot provide fingerscans.
For all the above, a photograph will still need to be provided.
The contact details for the VFS Visa Applications Centre in Tashkent are as follows: (998 71) 1200034 or (998 71) 1200035.
Please note that VFS provides a visa application support service only. VFS staff will have no power or influence over the outcome of an application. The decision to issue or refuse a visa is made solely by Entry Clearance officers at the British Embassy. VFS’s role is entirely impartial. VFS staff will provide visa information but they cannot and will not offer immigration advice.

British embassy in Tashkent introduces new visa application forms
24.10.2007 15:15:43
Starting from 28 October 2007, all visa applicants applying for a visa/entry clearance to the United Kingdom should apply using new application forms, a press release of Press and Public Affairs Section of the British Embassy in Uzbekistan said.
Mark Sedwill the Director of UKVisas said: "We at UKVisas want to encourage tourists, students and key workers to apply for visas to go to the UK. We have redesigned our visa application forms to make them as straightforward and as simple as possible. This will help us to maintain and enhance our position as the destination of choice for our high value legitimate travellers in what is an increasingly competitive global market".
UKvisas have updated the visa application forms to make them easier to understand and fill in. The forms are written in plain English to make them as simple as possible for applicants to complete. The forms must be completed in English but there are step by step instructions, directing you to the next question and explaining how to complete each section.
There are also comprehensive guidance notes with each form. These explain how to fill in the questions and what documents you need to submit with your application. This means that we are less likely to ask applicants for more information or call them in for an interview.
The new forms will help UKVisas to identify high-risk applicants, which means we can also more confidently identify and welcome our high value customers – who play a vital role in boosting Britain's economy.
There is a dedicated application form for each type of traveller. In total there are eight standard application forms (VAF1 – Visitor, VAF2 – Employment, VAF3 – Student, VAF4 – Settlement, VAF5 – EEA Family Permit, VAF6 – Direct Airside Transit, VAF7 – Right of Abode, VAF8 – UK Overseas Territories), and three forms for Diplomats (DIP1 – Diplomatic Posting, DIPDEP1 – Diplomatic Posting Dependant, DIP2 – Official visit/Transit).
The British Embassy Tashkent will continue to accept the old forms until 9 November 2007. After this date applicants must complete a new application form, as old forms will not be accepted, the embassy said in its release.
