I'm sure there won't be any problems with it. you'll give your current passport to Uzb embassy, they will issue you new passport with special paper saying that Your passport been changed due to... than you'll send it to Home office (but I assume you'll have to pay full fees for new work permit) IMHO.

Bilishim bo'yicha Londondagi O'zbekiston Elchixonasi orqali Passportingizni faqatgina agar siz full-time student bo'lsangiz yoki Britaniyaga muddatsiz ko'chib ketgan bo'lsangizgina almashtira olasiz. Boshqa xolatlarda (shu jumladan work permitingiz bo'lgan holatda) Toshkentga borib, o'sha erda passport almashtiriladi. Yuqorida aytilganidek, passport almashtirilganidan so'ng eski passportdagi vizangizni engi passportingizga ko'chirib berishadi. Adashmasam Transfer of Conditions (TOC) application turi. Fee`si £160 edi bir vaqtlar, hozir o'zgargan bo'lishi mumkin.

Big Daddy is right -- I approached the Embassy some time ago when my passport was about to expire. The answer was: unless you are a full time student or based in the UK on some official government matters, you have to go to Uzb - and they do not offer any assistance.

Its true. They are hopeless!
You need to go back to Uzb, change your passport and get a Visa from British Embassy in Tashkent. Extra headache!

Just an update on what happened -
Fearing that there might be implications, I didn't tell the Uzb Emb in London that I was on a working visa and that I needed a new passport.
Instead, I told them that, trying to arrange documents for passport renewal, I lost my passport. The guy said if I lost the passport, I needed to go to Uzb for a new one.
So eventually I went home for two weeks: obtained a new passport (2 days), tranferred an old "OVIR" onto the new passport (3 days), and submitted the passport (with application and supporting docs) to the British Emb in Tashkent to tranfer an old visa onto my new passport(3 days). However, before even going to Uzb, I had to book an appointment with the British Emb in Tashkent 1-1.5month ahead and plan accordingly.
Thanks for an input everyone - your feedback's been useful ! :)
