View Full Version : Manliest Men

This (http://www.arthurshall.com/x_manly_men.shtml) website published what they think is the list of 10 manliest men of modern times.
I don't agree with all of their choices, except for Clint Eastwood, and Jesse Ventura. The rest are as manly as a manicure session.
Now if I could name someone else...
I'll start with the fictional character, Davy Jones from the Pirates of the Caribbean 2. He doesn't take sh*t from anyone, and kicks ass; and the rumor is, his name is actually a nickname for a Devil of the Seas. That's +1 in my cool-book. :D
On a more serious note, my vote goes to the defenders of Pavlov's House in Stalingrad. You can read their amazing story here (http://users.pandora.be/stalingrad/pavlov/ruspavlov.htm). By the way, based on their last names, I assume, among the members of the unit were at least 3 people from Central Asia (Turdyev, Turgunov, Ramazanov).
TOPIC: Let's create our own list of manliest men, both real and fictional (movie or book characters). Whom will you nominate?

How does discussing men automatically turn into women-bashing? I guess I can't see that slippery slope...
According to your logic, I guess women discussing other women is nothing less than men-hating.

Title for this movie in Japan is "My Bodyguard". "Bone Collector" was also brilliant.
Next ones, Bruce Willis, John Travolta, Joaquin Phoenix (?).

Fedor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fedor_Emelianenko) Emelianenko would take a top of my list. The guy is amazing. An absolute champion in Pride since 2003. Personal record: 27 wins and only 1 loss (that fight was a joke... he lost by uncertain TKO). Strong, agile, emotionally detached, fearless (IMHO). Forget about Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris... :D

I've seen both Taktarov and Parechnikov fights. I wasn't impressed with them as much as I was with Fedor.
I don't know the guy from Samarkand you're talking about. Do you know his name?
On: I believe being a manliest men doesn't imply being a buff with huge muscles? Does it? If not, then three fictional characters would be added to my list: Leon (The Professional), Vincent (Collateral), and Vito Corleone (The Godfather). Calm, taciturn, emotionally stable.

What is manly about Fidel Castro????? He basically took over a country controlled by the US with a group of a few men. That is basically a real life rambo. And although his country lies a few miles away from a world superpower has never lost control. And this is with the US trying to kill him and undermine him for all these years. It's basically the world's biggest and most impressive underdog story of all time. And the only reason nobody knows about it is because he is an "evil communist" (although he actually isn't really a communist).
For example: Castro: Cuba not cashing U.S. Guantanamo rent checks http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070817/ts_nm/cuba_castro_usa_dc

I have seen the list: it is a list made by a racist and a typical member of consumerist society.
Personally, I would start the list of modern men with the name of Hasan al Banna: what a man! He had an idea and did all the possible and impossible to realize it and nothing but death (precisely, assasination) stopped him!

On: I would also add Kirk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirk_Kerkorian) Kerkorian to my list. A billionaire, an amateur boxer, a pilot, a philanthropist, a real life legend. He definitely did not play it safe by graduating from high school, getting into college and landing a job afterwards, like millions of other people did/do. It takes some courage to live a life the way he did. Thus, he is on my "The men list".

You are right, men can do a lot nowadays: Like wage wars or peace talks, star in good movies, win championships, drive flashy cars, or sing hip-hop. But nowadays, it is much harder to find a guy who can do those basic things like fixing something, much easier to find guys who can flex their muscles and look good.

Exactly. Anybody, including un-emancipated women can hire a technician. But Manliest Man will do himself
Then, should I conclude that all technicians are manliest men, dear???:)

First of all, I'm not "Dear".
Second, you can conclude whatever you want.I allow you to do so :). Although, your logic is flawed. Manliest men should be good technicians, not necessarily vice-versa. Some women can be good technicians too, for example.
P.S. Manliest man also have a proper sense of logic.

My apologies for refering to u as dear (even though I dont find anything offensive), U've made some bold statements and u should be able to underpin them, however:
let's look at your definition of the manliest man: "Manliest men should be good technicians"... Why??? Because u just believe so??? That's definitely not enough and the outcome of this conclusion is that your logic is impaired as well. Thus, I'm not the only member of this club...:D
P.S. Have a nice day, the precious one!

Mr.Shambles,
That was my opinion, yes they should be, because I believe so! I didn't say "Dear" is offensive; I just said don't call me "Dear"
Speaking about logic: personally, I didn't see how your argument about my argument has to do anything with logic :)
In any case, I am a woman:)... I am allowed to be "illogical":)

Mr.Shambles,
What if I equally agressively decline the "precious one"? And, insist on "Your Highness"?
Save the "precious one" to someone else

Ms Precious one,
unfortunately, I'm not that nice guy and I would insist on my offer... It turns out that I saved the "precious one" for you... ;)
Just enjoy it, since I dont come up with such generous offers often.
Yours faithfully,

Clive Owen, most of the characters he plays are kind of manly :). In Elizabeth: The Golden Age, he was very manly -- english pirate (movie sucked big time, do not spend your money to watch it in movie theater, not even worth of getting DVD from Blockbuster or whatever -- wait till they show it on TV -- Unless of course you are Clive Owen's or Cate Blanchett's  fan)
