Anybody from New York?

Hi all!

I will be interning with the UN this fall, and I need your advice regarding accommodation in NY. What is the best way to search a room? Which places are safe and cheap to stay? Where could I stay for the first few days?

Hey,

You can look up the www.craigslist.com for a room in any part of NY. Don't worry that much about living far from Manhattan. One girl from Uzb. is also doing her internship in UN while living in Brooklyn, so I think she is pretty OK with that. You will be fine as long as you have a room close to F,R,E,V (and some more) train stations.
It's gonna cost you about $500-600 for a room in Queens and probably the same or less in Brooklyn. And don't worry about the safety that much, just don't go to Harlem :)
I don't really know where you could stay for a couple of days. However you could arrange the room before you come here, so that you would go straight to that place.
